Light went out with all three indicator ilghts flashing; replaced the lamp, worked for about 30 secs, then went out. Tried again after cleaning dust, etc; lasted about 2 minutes. Now just get flashing middle light; cycles; sounds like capacitor charging; ten stops; starts process again. Curiously, have to unplug TV to turn off...
Hi,
Are you sure you replaced correct Samsung original lamp and it is not aftermarket or cheap one?
I thought of this, and replaced the origianl lamp (which I now suspect is not the problem) and the same thing happens.

Please check fans are running properly?
If ballast supply fails, TV will not power up.
If any fan stop running, may be a wire got stuck there, TV will not power up.
Fans run fine. I bought online the repair manual and two of the
possible causes are the ballast and power supply; power supply supposed
to be 300 v, so I guess I'll have to go in and check this too
=======================================================================
OK,
You should check all output voltages in power supply as per service manual.
I do not have that particular model schematics so if you could email service manual to [email protected] then I would be in better position to help you out.
I unplugged power plug to ballast and measured voltage to ballast as
385 v; higher than 300 specified. Is this a problem? I'll try to email
manual. Also heard same capacitor like sound without power to ballast,
so maybe is ballast...
=========================================================================
Yes, as lamp is new and fans are running so Ballast supply is only thing that can be bad.
It is available in Part Store.
I'm waiting service manual in email to look its schematics.
Thanks.
Hi,
Thank you for sending service manual.
Part number of ballast supply is AA4700008A and available in Part Store.
Is there any significance to the voltage having measured 385v?
==========================================================================
If you measure voltage without ballast supply attached then it would be greater then normal reading like 300V DC can be around 350V DC or so.
Please check manual page 9-5 ( page 48 in reader bar) It is mentioned that Ballast supply input is 380V from main power supply board. Image is appended below...

Remove the lamp and visually check if inside looks broken.if visually
do not see any thing wrong, check if you have 300 volts dc supply on the
ballast which starts the lamp.if you do then the ballast may be
defective.if you do not then the power supply should be checked.
the lamp should always be tried first especially if is older than two years.
note - be aware about the switch at the door lamp.the door should be
closed, otherwise tv will not work.if you remove the back cover, make
sure to bypass the switch temporarely so you could work on the set.
I got it.i will explain.
what exactly happens.as what the error you got is for lamp replacement.but if the lamp is new and after lamp replacement.if still the lights blink and the tv does not comes up that means its100% ballast problem.the ballast needs replacement.
it not at all any other fault.its ballast problem.
please do rate the solution
thank you for using fixya.
keep updated.
thanks.
LED Indications
The front panel Status LED provides an indication of
the set's operation and the possible cause of a malfunction.
If an abnormal condition is indicated, perform the
Self Diagnostics procedure.
Self Diagnostics
To activate, press the front panel <ACTIVITY> &<CH
??> buttons at the same time and hold for 5 seconds.
The STATUS LED will then flash denoting a two digit
code.
• The number of flashes indicates the value of the
MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code.
• The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2
second.
• The LED then flashes indicating the value of the
(ones digit) of the Error Code.
• The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times.
Example: If the Error Code is "23", the LED
will flash two times, pause, and then flash three
times.
Table 2-2: LED Indications
Error Codes, descriiptions and the most likely cause of
the error are listed in Table 2-3.
Note: The TV must be in "Shut Down." The LED
will probably be indicating an abnormal
condition. If the TV is switched Off, AC is
removed, or a System Reset is performed, the
code automatically resets to "12" No Error.
See the Error Code Log to retrieve a history of
errors.
Note: Use the front panel buttons, not the remote
control.
Note: If there is no response, the front panel may be
locked by a V-Chip setting. To unlock, press
and hold <ACTIVITY> on the front panel for
8 seconds.
LED Indication Condition
Off Off (standby)
Green Power On
Slow Blink Green Power Off with Timer Set
Fast Blink Green (80 seconds) > Off Power Off (Cooling fan still working, 80 sec)
LED Indication Condition
Red Lamp Failure
Yellow TV Too Hot
Slow Blink Red TV May Require Service
Slow Blink Yellow Lamp Door Open or No Lamp Installed
NORMAL INDICATIONS
ABNORMAL INDICATIONS (For details perform Self Diagnostics Procedure.)

Is it fairly obvious where to check voltage of power supply to ballast upon opening back of TV? I assume TV has to be turned on (obviously!) which means little blue switch on lamp door has to be taped down or held down somehow...
I don't think this is the ballast; can hear the whining as it tries to power up, no clicking as described by others. Will replace anyhow if nothing else turns up. How does one check power supply?

If not, I'll just order ballast and see how it goes.
thanks!
