I replaced the power lock switch on the driver side of my chevy malibu because the locks were locking and unlocking by themselves, I also heard a beep under the dash. The problem was taken care of. Now it's starting to do the same thing. Do something need to be reprogrammed after I changed the power lock switch.

All the lock's ,were locking an unlocking or just the driver door lock ? Probably wasn't the switch ,more likely a bad input to the BCM . The door lock's are computer controlled .
Do you know what a BCM is ? body control module .
Each door lock switch is wired to the body control module (BCM) through a separate door lock/unlock signal circuit. While these circuits are separated between the BCM and respective door lock switch, they are connected into a single circuit within the BCM. The BCM supplies voltage through the door lock/unlock signal circuits to each door lock switch. When either door lock switch is operated, this supply voltage is pulled to ground, providing the BCM with the required lock or unlock signal. In order for the BCM to distinguish between a lock and unlock signal, the lock switch contains two separate paths for this voltage to flow to the same body ground. When the switch is operated to the unlock position, the supply voltage flows to ground through a 1.5 K? resistor. When the switch is operated to the lock position, the supply voltage flows to ground through a different part of the switch circuit, which has no resistor. The BCM then interprets the flow of voltage as a lock or unlock request and powers the door lock actuators to the appropriate lock or unlock position.

SOURCE: Ignition and Transmisssion Locked on 2000 Chevy Malibu

I had a similar problem on a 2001 GM product. The problems all stemmed from a worn out key. Keys are made from softer metals so that they wear out before the expensive cylinder does. Debris had collected in the cylinder preventing ANY key from turning it - corrected that with compressed air. Replaced the key at the dealer by providing the VIN and my ID w/registration - $10.00. Kept the old keys because they still worked for opening the trunk. Try it, I bet your symptoms and fix actions are very similar, at least, I hope so. Regards.

SOURCE: 2008 chevrolet malibu door lock problem

You have a intermittent condition. To isolate the cause: 1.Disconnect the drivers door lock/unlock switch from the connector. Drive the vehicle and see if your random lock/unlock condition has stopped. If it has, replace the switch. If it hasn't:
2. You have a grounding problem or a problem in the BCM (Body Control Module) and should have a technician use a Tech 2 Diagnostic Link Tool to access the BCM computer to obtain any fault code data to help correct the condition.

SOURCE: I locked my keys in

A lot of today's cars have seat backs that fold down to allow access to the trunk. I guess you would of already tried that. Just a thought. The only other thing I can think of, besides calling a locksmith, is to see if there is a blown fuse for the remote opener.

I have an 05 chevy malibu and the automatic door locks wont work. I checked the fuse yesterday and found where it is, pulled it out and after putting it back in the correct spot they stopped working.

Your question as stated is missing clarity.

Do you mean power lock buttons were functional but automatic lock/unlock stopped working. Then after removing and reinserting the lock fuse, none of the lock functions work?

The BCM controls activation of all the lock actuators. The power lock/unlock buttons at the doors request the BCM to power the specific door lock with the appropriate polarity to lock or unlock. Further, the BCM has inputs from the ignition switch and the transmission selector to issue the operator programmable automatic lock/unlock.

The typical single point of failure for all door locks is the drivers switch assembly, but it requires several troubleshooting steps to isolate other potential faults.

1999 blazer Doors lock and unlock even when parked, help

Lock an unlock by them selves ? Door locks are computer controlled ,by the BCM - body control module .
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Power Door Locks Circuit Description
The power door lock system includes the following components:
• The door lock actuators
• A door lock relay
• An door unlock relay
• A driver door unlock relay
• The door lock and side window switches
• The body control module (BCM)
• The endgate lock cylinder switch /liftgate lock cylinder switch (utility)
• The keyless entry, if equipped
The door lock and liftgate mechanisms may be controlled by the following switches:
• The door lock and side window switches
• The BCM
• The endgate lock cylinder switch / liftgate lock cylinder switch (utility)
• The keyless entry, if equipped
The following locking functions are included on the vehicle:
• All the doors unlock -- All the doors will unlock, including the endgate/liftgate, when any power door unlock switch is detected. The passenger doors lock directly by pressing the lock switches. The driver door unlocks by the BCM using a driver door unlock relay.
• All the doors lock -- All the doors will lock, including the endgate/liftgate, when any power door lock switch is activated. All the lock actuators will activate directly from the power door lock switch (external to the BCM).
• The end/lift gate lock switch -- All the doors will lock or unlock from the end/lift gate lock switch.
• The lockout prevention -- This function will prevent the doors from automatically locking if the keys have been left in the ignition and the power door lock switch is operated.
The motor is protected by a built-in electronic circuit breaker (ECB). If the motor is overloaded or voltage is applied for an excessive amount of time, the ECB internal resistance increases, essentially creating an open circuit. The resistance returns to normal only after voltage is removed from the circuit, thereby restoring circuit continuity.

2004 chevy malibu driver and passenger door lock problems

The locks on your vehicle are electronically controlled by the BCM - body control module . The driver an passenger door switche's are input's to the BCM . Do you know anything about automotive electronic's ? anti theft alarm remote, could this be part of the problem , No it's just a key less entry remote , nothing to do with the anti-theft .
Door Lock System Components
The Power Door Lock System consists of the following components:
• Body control module (BCM)
• Driver door lock switch
• Front passenger door lock switch
• Door lock actuators in each of the doors
• IBCM (PWR) 15-amp fuse

Door Lock System Controls
The Power Door Lock System is controlled by the body control module (BCM) and can be activated by any one of the following:
• A door lock switch Lock or Unlock actuation
• A keyless entry transmitter actuation
• An automatic door lock actuation
• An automatic door unlock actuation
• A last door closed locking (LDCL) actuation

Driver and Passenger Door Unlock Operation w/o Keyless Entry
When the body control module (BCM) detects a transition of either of the door lock switches to the Unlock position, it switches the door lock actuator unlock control circuits to voltage. Since the door lock actuator lock control circuit is at ground potential within the BCM, the driver passenger door lock actuators transition to the Unlock position.

Your best bet , take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop ! Need special tool to diagnose .

Doors lock themselves when manually locked with key in ignition but if key is removed it doesn't do it. No lock function on power locks only unlock function works

Sounds like the switch is bad. Try passenger side lock button or keyfob lock. If they work and not driver side, then it's the switch in the doorpanel. If none work to lock, but all will unlock, then it's probably the little lock motor inside driver door.

2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx - Electrical Problems?

Hello I am not sure if this is the exact fix but I was having the same problem and I took my Malibu in to be checked and it appears to be a problem inside the steering column. When I turn the steering wheel it makes the door locks go crazy!! So although this is not a fix it may be a place to look for a frayed wire or a short in the wires. I am taking my Malibu in on Monday to be checked. Good luck to all having the same problem.
