Vertical/horizontal I have a 1989 Zenith SF2517TR floor model tv. It will not stay set as the picture will shrink to half the size of the screen. You can bang on the side of the TV and it will reset. Where is the vertical/horizontal switch for this tv, as i can not find it.

Since you can bang it to heal it some, try checking for cold solder joints. Caps and IC's next. Careful TV's store up to 3000 K volts unplugged. Enuff to kill.

27 inch Zenith TV Vertical too big

If you are using a DTV coverter box, you may have changed the aspect ratio with your remote control. look for a button marked "aspect" or "picture size" use that to change size.
If you have a cable box, you may have a similar button.
Or you may find a picture size adjustment on your TV remote.
If you do not have "aspect" button on your remote try going to set up menu and look for picture size.
Older TVs used to have a vertical size adjustment at the back. look in the manual.
If none of the above, you have a biiger problem with the TV internal parts needing attention

Zenith tv picture is larger than screen

Hello
There are Horizontal and Vertical size controls behind the back cover that need to be adjusted using a hand held tool. This adjustment requires a trained tech. High Voltage from the set is dangerous.
However, there maybe some limited controls that may help through the on screen menu.
To get into the setup menu, you need the original Remote that came with the TV.
Hold the Menu Key down until a box appears in the corner of the screen, then press 9,8,7,6 Enter. this takes you to the service menu. Just scroll through the items to find Horiz Size and Vert Size.
Good luck

Picture and text extend beyond screen

Your tv needs to be put into service mode with the original Sony remote control and then set the vertical\horizontal size parameter to the correct values and then burn the new settings to memory
Google " sony tv service mode " and you should find the procedure. Good Luck! Write back if you have problems.

Picture broken and shrinking

You need to change your vertical IC, along with some capacitors around the vertical IC. Capacitor with value 220UF, 10uf, 470uf and finally 1000uf. Doing this will fix the set. Total cost under $40

Zenith console tv model sentry 2 27 inch

Resolder the vertical deflection section. Change pump up capacitor if it has one...100uf is a typical value. Is the vertical output some flavor of LA783x ?? May need to replace. A model # would help.

Picture Shortens, Converges, eventually the set shuts off - $50 for Correct Solution

Open the TV amd turn it on in a position you can see the picture, possibly through a mirror. Now gently tap all of the metal heat sinks on the circuit board until you find the one that is sensitive it will have a small chip mounted vertically on it, with probably like 7-10 pins. The number on the chip will most likely be an "LA****" number. Now turn the circuit board (UNPLUG FIRST) over and resolder the pins. This is your problem 99% of the time. Be very careful there is High Voltage inside this TV.

Screen Size is Too Big

There should be a vertical height adjustment control potentiometer near the vertical output IC on the right side of the PC board near the front section of the TV that can be adjusted to shrink the picture vertically. Be careful not to short anything out or getting yourself shocked in the process if you decide to try to adjust it yourself. Good luck. This chassis has also been known to have bad solder connections in that area also, so don't man-handle the printed circuit board roughly.
