Can anyone share advise on how to remove the Power Button Circuit Board on a Gateway W730 K8X laptop?
Gateway provides information on removing and replacing the keyboard only.
The instructions for replacing the keyboard include the cover you have to remove to replace the power button pcb. The power button pcb is attached to the bottom of the bezel that covers the hinges/button array. In a nutshell you just remove the 2 screws indicated in the instructions, pry the hinge covers up a bit, then gently pry the bezel up from the bottom. remove the ribbon cable, pull back the small piece of tape, remove the three small screws holding the pcb on, and remove it from the spring clips.
The next problem will be finding just the replacement button. The design isn't very good anyway (held on with some kind of adhesive tape). One online source has a redesigned replacement panel and PCB but it's around $100. The eMachines plastic part fits, but the button won't actuate the Gateway "on" micro switch (learned the hard way). The next question is whether the eMachines PCB will work with the Gateway.
Good luck....
