Ummm.... your question is about a car radio, but you listed a home amp as the unit..... ?!? Anyway if it's a kenwood CAR radio, pressthe "ATT" button and it should go back to normal volume.

Where is the mute button

Typically it will be a picture of a speaker with a circle around it and a line through the middle. Also check your sound settings on the computer (by the time on your desktop). Also check in device manager to make sure you are not having driver problems.

One day it was working fine - the next day there is no sound for any device. Mute button was not on, unlugged power, waited 5 minutes, reactivated - nothing

Most machines have multiple outputs and assignments for these outputs. If the assignment is off you will get no sound. There is also features that will turn off sound like choosing the wrong speaker A or B setting if speaker A and B are both in or both out and only one set is actually hooked up it will mute, and there are machines with Tape Monitor feature which will mute the sound for recording purposes. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask for clarification with more details about your receiver if it does not.

No sound

I have the same problem but it works for about two minutes before it cuts off I think its a short in the speaker wire because I've tested everything else and it still did the same thing

Buzzing noise

Of course it will stop buzzing when you mute the speakers. From the limited description, it could be anything from a power supply to loose wires in the system between the speaker leads and the motherboard. Best bet is to take it in to a technician and get a pro's answer. If he wants to charge more than what it's worth to you, get a new one.
