Bad Color Wheel

The color wheel in my X1a is gone bad, I believe. The high pitch screeching noise I hear when I turn it on is due to the color wheel is what I have read on similar blogs. If I could purchase a matching product so I can replace it myself that would be great. Thanks dynoh

Samsung dlp tv HLP5663W makes loud noise

Yes, the set uses a color wheel and the lamp faces it.

The wheel turns at over 8,000 rpm and is well known for this problem=bearings in the tiny motor go bad.

The high pitched or fan like noise (classic description) is this part.

Sooner or later the wheel (plastic colored segments) will shatter and set will shut down lamp and not operate---set monitors the speed of the wheel so if it slows down or stops it knows.

The part is readily available on the internet (Google the model number with "color wheel").

This can be a do it yourself repair and You Tube has video instructions for replacing the wheel by model number.

There are two common pitfalls to avoid which the instructions that come with the replacement part usually do not mention---if you decide to do this repair let me know and I will explain.

Replaced the lamp in Samsung hl-s5086w and now T.V. won`t turn on but has a high pitch noise coming from back of set.

The high pitch noise is the color wheel that needs replace the noise is coming from a bad bushing that goes to the color wheel and is a common problem.

My Samsung HL-S5065W will turn on, it makes a humming noise. The picture comes on after a 1 minute or so the screen will go black and the tv shuts down. What could this be?

color wheel is a rotating disc that has a

gamma of colors it spins at high rpms.The

light of the lamp goes through it to create

the colors on your tv.When it starts to go

bad you will hear ,humming,buzzing,high

pitch noises ,you might also experiment

color distortion ,black and white

Wont turn on ,bulb ok what next

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast.Here's the instructions to replace it :http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php Any buzzing,humming,or high pitch sounds? The fan intermittenly makes a noise and the color changes on the tv

You need to give model #. Most likely you have a dlp tv and its not the fan but the color wheel that spins at very high speed and creates correct colors on your screen. This color wheel makes noise when its bad and colors go off when its running at slower speeds. Its going to fail sooner or later as its going bad now. Its a professional job to change the color wheel and could cost you $280-320 depending on the model. Fan generally never make anoise that is loud enoug to be heard unless its blades are hitting some obstru ction. Color wheel or did i break something else?

Usually a bad color wheel will produce a high pitched sound or even a grinding noise; some sets may actually shut down if the wheel is bad or shattered.

To determine if you have a bad color wheel:

Turn set off and wait for main fan to shut off.
Unplug the set.
Remove the lamp door and then remove the lamp.
In the direction the lamp faces you will see a round opening; the color wheel is facing this opening. It is a round plastic wheel with colored segments—we want to look to see if any of the segments are missing; a shattered wheel should be clear to see.

X1A DLP No picture no buttons work only get white light

possibly the colorwheel. remove the lamp and see if the colorwheel is still there (colored glass through the hole). if it is, replace the lamp and turn the projector on. if you hear a high pitched whir, the colorwheel motor is ok. if not, it's one of 2 things: the main board has come loose from the dmd chip board, or the main board (eca controller) is bad. if the board is bad, you'll need to replace it, but it's over $500.

When i turn the tv on ,sometimes i hear a high pitched fan noise.

Hi, bearings in color wheel are about to fail, get it fixed now before the wheel shatters the prisms all over the inside of the tv which of course will then cost you more to fix, video-tek

Loud high pitch humming noise over powering sound from TV

Yes you can repair this your self it is the color wheel also keep in mind that if set does not play after replacing color wheel and lamp lights,color wheel working with all 3 fans running and set shuts off within 30secs of turn on BAD LIGHT ENGINE!!!!!!!! also they are NO LONGER Available cost of that part was 1,000.00

High pitched whine when the motor starts

Had the same problem. It quit within about 5 seconds after turning the TV off. Replaced the color wheel and the whine is gone. The picture also looks brighter, which may be due to dusting the projection lens with lens-cleaning compressed air (from a can). The color wheel was about $100 from Samsung parts and it took less than 3 hours to replace.
