Can I set this up this wireless router if I have cable internet and not DSL?

You CAN do this if you have access to the firmware of the ADSL gateway.

Connect cat5 cable from ethernet port on cable modem to ethernet port 1 on ADSL Gateway. (Must be port 1)
-Connect cat5 cable from computer NIC to other port on ADSL Gateway.
-(You may need to) Start->Run->cmd
ipconfig -release all
ipconfig -renew
Here's the trick...
-Open web browser, go to ADSL Gateway homepage (likely 192.168.0.1)
-Configuration tab, Advanced WAN->WAN
-Change WAN PORT drop down from DSL ATM PORT to ETHERNET PORT 1
-Click Edit button. Change Protocol from PPPoE to ROUTED.
-Radio button for DHCP Client to Enable.
-Click Set button.
-(You may need to) Power cycle both Cable Modem and ADSL Gateway device

Now this was done on a Westell ADSL gateway from verizon, yours may differ and you may need to look up the instructions for your specific gateway.

Show me how to connect linksys wireless

Hi

The Router configuration is not that much difficult, only few thing you have sure,
1) Correct ADSL Connection User name & password,
2) Chose unique ip address in All host.

Follow the mention bellow instruction to configure and connect to Wifi Router,

  • Plug the network cable ( Mine was Blue ) which comes with the Router Box pack to your computer. The other end goes into any of the Router Ethernet Port ( 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 )
  • Now type in 192.168.1.1 in IE or Firefox or any browser. You will prompted for password which is admin. You must be logged into Linksys Router.
  • Now since your ADSL modem is also having the same IP , we will change the IP address for WRT54G2 Router to 192.168.5.1
  • Under Setup >Basic Setup look for Network Setup and Change Router IP. Change to 192.168.5.1 and Save changes.
  • Since the IP has changed you will need to close the Browser.
  • Sometimes the IP doesnt change automatically. Do a IPCONFIG / RELEASE and then IPCONFIG / Renew

Making WRT54G2 Router talk to ADSL broadband modem
  • Plugin the Ethernet cable which comes from the Modem into the port on Wrt54g2 router which says Internet.
  • Open Internet Explorer and Type in 192.168.5.1.
  • Type in same password ( admin )
  • You will be in Setup > Basic Setup
  • Take a look at Section , Internet Setup. The current selection should be Automatic Configuration DHCP. Select Static IP instead.
  • Add following details to it. In the first step we backed up All the IP configuration. Use them here
Internet IP Address: . . .
Subnet Mask: . . .
Gateway: . . .
Static DNS 1: . . .
Static DNS 2: . . .

Configuring for Wireless Connection :Now once your Router is talking with Modem, it is pretty easy to connect on Wireless. The only thing we need to setup here is Security. Lets get WIFI
  • Get to the Lynksys page again. Do all login and regualr stuff.
  • Now look for menu Wireless, click on it. You should land on Basic Wireless Settings.

Now Lets secure the Router :

  • You will need to configure here Security Mode : WPA Personal, WPA Algorithms: TKIP
  • WPA Shared Key is what you will need when you connect to your router without wire. This key does the authentication and keep unwanted people away. Add 8 digit alphanumeric key.
  • As suggested in comments, there is a new mode which you can use : WPA2 with AES
  • Save changes.Just make sure you save that key to a notepad or remember it.

Wrt54g2 wireless security

  • Now last step, Move to next menu Security > Firewall .

I no longer have the install software, how can I set up wep for my unsecured router?

You dont need the Software to do this - you can setup routers manually - by logging into them - to start lets find the correct online manual - this is the start of getting an online manual http://www.zoom.com/techsupport/adsl/adsl_5590cf.shtml Page 28 - shows how to setup the wireless security also shows details on page 13 how to login to the router - using 10.0.0.2 in an internet explorer address bar - now these are quite OLD settings - so they may still be valid or a firmware update may have changed - to check - on the PC do the following start>run {vista/7 search box}>CMD>ipconfig --- you should see a number next to default gateway if its 10.0.0.2 then thats the same as the manual - but it may start 192.168.x.x ---- so that maybe the number you need to enter into the webpage NEXT - the default username and password --- from page 14 of manual then goto the wireless section and set the WEP security you require

How to instal D-link

Read the "Quick Install Guide" that came with the router.

Or, connect an Ethernet cable between your ADSL/Cable modem to the 'WAN' port on the router.

Connect another Ethernet cable between LAN port #1 on the router and your computer.

Turn the router on.

Restart your computer.

Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD and press ENTER
Type IPCONFIG and press ENTER
Look for a line like:

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 124.168.136.111

Start Internet Explorer.
Type http://124.168.136.111 and press ENTER.

Login to the router's web-interface.

Run the "Wired Setup Wizard".
Run the "Wireless Setup Wizard".

Router ports require configering

I know the ADSL portion of the modem needs configuration. But the routers are settup for default as dynamic and no WEP. At least the ones I have used.
Most belkin routers have a default gateway is 192.168.2.1. Try that and go into the setup. There is also a CD to help with setup.
If you need more help explain more in detail what setup you need.

The modem's been changed and cannot locate the CD to the driver to connect to the internet. The model is DSL-G604T/AU V.A3.

Hi! your dlink dsl-604T is adsl router modem, you can access the setup page of your modem router by connecting your computer directly to the port1 of the modem router and the cable from your isp should be connected to the WAN port. u need to pull up the browser and type in at the url:192.168.1.1 and it will ask the username and password, by default the username is admin and the password is 1234 or leave it blank, but i suggest before u do this steps. u need to reset your modem/router. there is a reset button on the back of the router and press it for 20secs and then unplug and replug it after 10secs. after that u can pull up the setup page of the router.. to check the default gateway of the router, right click the network icon on the lower right of the task bar and select status and it will show the ip address, subnet and default gateway..

u need to know what internet settings u have with your internet provider, bcoz once u access the setup wizard it will ask u the type like auto-dhcp, pppoe, static etc.. if your isp gives u a username and pass to connect to internet u have to select pppoe or if u are given a static ip address setting u need to select static ip... just follow the setup wizard..

Cant access router setup

If you type in http://10.0.0.2 to the adress line on your web browser, you should see a login window for the router. I think it is the wrong address. I think you should first RESET the router. Look for a little hole about the size of a pencil point. Stick a paperclip in and hold it in for about 1 minute. This should reset the router to factory settings.
If you have the manual, it should tell you how to access its setup pages. This is a modem and router in one. You must have an ADSL phone connection to an ISP. You must have the ISP's information to connect to their network. This information is needed to set the modem part of the router to log onto the internet through the ISP. Best of luck.

Unable to install after 81 %

If the setup CD is unable to setup your modem/router (it is also called a "gateway") you can do the router configuration via the Web User Interface of the router. you will need ADSL settings such as:
a. Encapsulation mode. (typically PPPoA or PPPoE)
b. Multiplexing: (it can be LLC or VC)
c. Virtual Circuit Range.
d. Username & Password (ADSL UN/PW)

note: All of these ADSL settings should be provided/given to you by your ISP/ADSL provider. You can call your ISP for this settings.

just notify me if you will need further assistance doing this, but first make sure you have all the settings for ADSL.
