SOURCE: Printer says 'Unable to detect paper width'
The paper tray has some "fingers" that detect the paper.
Remove the paper and tap the sensors a few times to make sure they are not stuck.
Use lots of mamper, not just one sheet so that there is enough weight to press down on the sensors.
Perhaps it is Earth's gravity that is malfunctioning today :)

You see the "Paper Width Error" on the 2280+ because the print job being recived by the pritner is wider than the physical paper which will cause the pritner to print on the platten, in order to rectify the problem.
Start with the printer Powered OFF
Hold Down the ONLINE button and power the printer ON keep ONLINE held down until you see ASCII80 ASCII136 on the top line of the display
Press the button under NEXT repeatedly until you see APW on the top line of the display
Press the button under APW
Set APW = OFF
This will disable the APW sensor and you will not see the Paper Width Error
