Wireless security to xbox

I set the wep code in my basestation, but I cannot figure out how to setup the xbox. I called xbox support and they said since it was not an xbox adapter, they didn't know how to help. On my xbox settings the adapter shows up as a wired network, but it is actually wireless.

Assuming you mean xbox360, there should be a seperate menu for wireless connections in the network settings, as when it finds the signal it then asks for the keycode security number, but as far as i know the old xbox doesnt support wireless.

I have a Buffalo router I am trying to find the wep code to hook up a xbox 360 wireless

Did you set a wep code for your wireless? If so then use that code you input. If you did not set one up, log into your router and go to security, wep and create one.

Having problems setting up my wireless networking adapter

What is the brand and model of your wireless router?

We need to know the settings (SSID, wireless security, security key/code) on the wireless router to match the settings on your xbox wireless adapter.

On your XBOX, go to System, then Network Settings, then select "Edit Settings".

Select the wireless network name or SSID of your wireless router. For the network mode, select Infrastructure. Select the security type if WPA or WEP and enter the Passphrase or WEP key.

Save the settings then select Test Xbox Live Connection.

I hope this works! Please take a moment to leave a comment if you find this solution helpful. Your feedback is important and very much appreciated. Good luck!

The light stays red, won't connect.

If the light on adapter is red it means that it cannot establish a wireless connection.

We need to get the wireless settings on the Belkin router and match those settings to your xbox adapter.

Use a computer to access the setup page of the belkin router. In a web browser's address bar type: 192.168.2.1.

It will prompt you to enter your router password. By default, just leave the password blank.

Once you are on the setup page, go to the wireless tab. Take note of the SSID, Broadcast SSID should be enabled.

Then Under Wireless go to Security. Take note of the Security Mode (WPA or WEP), Passphrase or WEP key.

Now, on your XBOX, go to System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

Select the SSID. Select Infrastructure for the Network mode. Select the security type if WPA or WEP and enter the Passphrase or WEP key.

Save the settings then select Test Xbox Live Connection.

I hope this works! Please take a moment to leave a comment if you find this solution helpful. Your feedback is important and very much appreciated. Good luck!

WE ARE TRYING TO GET MY XBOX TO GET LIVE AND IT SAYS THAT WE NEED A WEP KEY WERE CAN WE GET THAT AT

Your WEP key is on your router. When you setup wireless security in your router, you enter a key phrase aka WEP key. You just need to put that same phrase in the XBOX setup.

What is a wep key, and where will i find it, for setting up xbox 360 thanks

WEP stands for Wireless Encryption Protocol and it is the wireless key for your router.
The length of a WEP key depends on the type of WEP security (called "encryption") utilized:
  • 40- / 64-bit WEP: 10 digit key
  • 104- / 128-bit WEP: 26 digit key
  • 256-bit WEP: 58 digit key
You will need to find the WEP key in your router's administration page and then enter it on your xbox under the system settings then network settings.

Cannot connct xbox 360 wireless adaptor

Your XBOX 360 adapter should automatically be assigned an address by the router's DHCP server. I think you may be having a problem with your wireless configuration. Check the wireless settings on your router to confirm that it is indeed setup for WEP. If it is setup for WEP on bothe the router and the XBOX and the key is typed in correctly on the XBOX it should work. If it still doesn't however, disable the wireless security on your router, then restart your XBOX and see if it will connect without WEP. Many devices will have problems over WEP and not connect at all. If it connects fine with no security enabled then we will know that was the problem and I would sugest changing the security to WPA.

XBOX Live problems with Belkin N1 router

I suggest setting this up with a WPA encryption rather than WEP encryption. This should get ya setup without a problem. Also, I've noticed live to be a bit buggy since Christmas. If you continue to have troubles after trying this call 800-4my-xbox. The recording will tell you if they are having network issues.

I bet this helps!
