You may want to just download it to a location on your hard drive and run it from there. Depending on your system, it may take some tine to install as the initial download is just the installer. Once the installer is run, it will automatically download the latest components for your system and then install them. It tends to run more efficiently if the downlaoder is saved to the local machine and then run versus running it automatically after download.

I want to know on how to uninstall IE8 on my computer i am running a windows XP service pack 3. I just want to install a fresh copy of IE8 . . . . .

Hi josephc_agni,

You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 8 if it is set as not removable. This occurs if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you can uninstall Internet Explorer 8.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
  1. Close all programs.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. In the list of currently installed programs, click Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click Remove.

NOTE: If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try the alternative step given below.
  5. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
  6. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
ALTERNATIVE STEP:

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
  1. Carefully select and then copy the following command: %windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type Cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.
  4. Right-click inside the Cmd.exe window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
  5. Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
  6. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.

I downloaded ie8 and had problems with certain websites and my Norton 360 kept coming up with the error "Phishing filter not set". I had no alternative but to uninstall it.

IE8 should not be doing this. When you installed IE8 did you make sure to keep smart screen filter turned off from the beginning? Also, make sure you have the latest version of NIS 2009 (either 16.5.0.134 or 16.5.0.135) installed that support norton. If all else fails try and uninstall IE8 to revert to your previous IE version, fully update norton, and then install IE8 again and make sure when you set the preferences for the first time smart screen filter is turned off.

Ie8 didnt download properly ,now i cant un install ,tried system restore but its still there ,cannot remove either .would be grateful of any advice

Hi, Please do the following:
  1. Click on Start button
  2. Click on Control Panel
  3. Click Add/or Remove Programs icon
  4. Click on Change/Remove Programs
  5. Select the ie8 to uninstall it.
Ensure that the ie8 is properly downloaded from the www.microsoft.com website with proper legal licensing (it is very important that your internet explorer is a legal copy and not a pirated one).
After you download the installer, re-install. It should work this time.

I cannot download adobe flashplayer. Whenever I go to certain sites, I keep getting told that I need to disable Java or I have an older version of Adobe. I keep trying to download FP, but it keeps failing....

I had this problem before..you need to clean the registry files stored in your computers harddrive. The problem you are having now is that the flashplayer will not complete the download because the old flashplayer is priority even though you have upgraded your browser. I spent a few days when this happened to me. Try this free registry cleaner from CNET, click on the link and download it. After you download it, install it and run the program and it will clean all of your old files out of the harddrive. It will find and delete the old versions of Adobe. After you do that, resart the computer and redownload Adobe flash player.

I have installed IE8. I am getting the follow message'' raised unhandled exeption in the third party moudle. How do I fix it?

One of your "add-on" modules (Google or McAfee or Norton or Yahoo or other "toolbar") is incompatible with IE8.

Click: START
Click: Control Panel
Click: Add/Remove Programs
Select and "remove" the toolbar.

Keep removing toolbars, and keep trying IE8, until it works.
