trust me, the fault is from the win xp SP2. I am saying this with confidence and out of experience. Except if the audio drivers you downloaded is for win vista.
While running the Win xp, some files make have skipped/not installed which is making the sound not to work. Or maybe you have initially installed a wrong audio driver.
To solve this problem. you have to re-run the win xp, if possible, use another xp Cd, maybe not Sp2.
After installation, let the audio driver be the fist thing you install.
