Hi jnorte,

Try these steps,

  1. Close itunes and open it up again.
  2. Run software update, and make sure you have the latest software for itunes and the latest firmware for your ipod.
  3. Make sure that the ipod is fully charged.
  4. Disconnect other USB devices from your computer andtry a different USB 2.0 port. Also make sure it is a USB port thatconnects dirrectly to your computer. Not through a USB hub or akeyboard.
  5. Turn off the ipod touch, and turn it on again byholding down the top button and sliding the bar to power off. Thenpress and hold the top button until the Apple logo appears.
  6. Restart your computer, and reconnect the ipod to your computer.
  7. Download and reinstall the latest version of itunes. www.apple.com/itunes
I hope that helps,

Nathan.

Hold the power button and the home button down at the same time for 20 seconds. if it still doesn't power on, try to put it into DFU mode and plug it into iTunes to restore it:
1. Hold the power button and home button for 10 seconds.
2. Let go of the power button and continue holding the power button.

My 1st generation ipod touch will not charge, i cant connect it to my computer or my ipod dock. it has currently been on the dock for the past 3 days an has not charged at all. what do i do?

Does the screen light up and you see the charging logo at least or is it just black? If you see that battery logo, but it never turns on, you have a broken battery. If it stays black alltogether you have a broken logic boardIt's not too hard to replace the either part yourself. Here is an iPod Repair Guide that shows how to open an iPod. Parts are easily available on Ebay. If you want somebody else to do it for you go to iPad Repair

    Complete a Regular Restore
  1. Back up your iPod Touch's data to your computer before the restore to prevent losing data. You'll need to reinstall it after the restore process.
  2. Connect to the Internet and install the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website.
  3. Make sure your iPod Touch is connected to your computer.
  4. Pick "iPod Touch" in the Source pane of the iTunes program.
  5. Click on the Summary tab.
  6. Choose "Check for Update."
  7. Select "Restore" and follow the instructions to finish restoring your iPod Touch. Complete an Advanced Restore
  8. If following the steps in the previous section did not work, follow these steps to perform an advanced restore. Turn off the power on the iPod Touch.
  9. Plug the iPod Touch into your computer.
  10. Power on the iPod Touch.
  11. Press the "Home" and "Sleep/Wake" buttons together for 5 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
  12. Release the "Sleep/Wake" button but continue holding down the "Home" button. The iPod Touch should reboot, and iTunes will notice the iPod Touch in recovery mode.
  13. Return to the above section and follow those steps to restore your iPod Touch.
WARNING
Restoring iPod Touch software will return the iPod to its factory condition, and the restoration process will erase all data.

Ipod not getting connected to itunes nor getting charged, and please recommend which ipod converter to download. Thank you in advance my ipod is not charged, when connected to a computer

hello!

if your IPod touch is not connected to itunes, please try the ff:

Check the iPod touch Display
-- When you connect iPod touch to your computer, the iPod touch should display an image or message on the display

-- If you do not see any image, check some basic troubleshooting here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1737
-- If you see a message on the screen, this indicates that the iPod touch does not have sufficient battery charge to operate and will need to be charged for several minutes before it can be recognized in iTunes.

Verify Windows PC System Requirements

--iPod touch requires iTunes 7.4 or later
Check USB Connections

-- iPod touch requires USB 2.0 to function properly
-- Try connecting iPod touch to a different USB port, preferably a port that is built-in to the computer instead of an external USB hub. Connecting iPod touch to your keyboard's USB ports is not recommended.

Restart your PC

-- In some cases, your computer's USB ports may become temporarily disabled or you may experience other software related issues. Restarting your PC is an easy troubleshooting step that may resolve this issue.

Verify iPod touch Driver/Service Installation

-- iPod touch requires two important pieces of software to operate properly on Windows. First, the driver must be installed; for iPod touch the driver is USBAAPL.SYS. Second, Apple Mobile Device Support must be installed as a Windows Service.
