Anonymous Posted on Aug 26, 2013

I'm looking to upgrade the Graphics Card in my HP Compaq Frankenstein, honestly, so I can play Second Life. I have an Acer Aspire m1610 that is frankly useless thanks to vista and I want to get the graphics card out of it but for the life of me I can't figure out where it is. I have looked everywhere. Please help!

SOURCE: acer aspire 5535 powers up but no screen display

If the motherboard has integrated video, it can be disabled and another addin video card can be installed into an available pci-e, agp, or pci slot if your computer has one. This is not something you can do with a laptop, only a desktop computer. For example, when i put a video card in one of my extra slots it automatically disables the integrated video.
If your video card is ALREADY in one of the ADD_IN slots, it can be removed and replaced.

Follow the cable from the monitor to the acer computer case back. Where it connects to the back of the computer is a socket. This socket is at one end of the graphics card inside the case.

I cont play 3d games graphic card is there in acer aspire 4720z

* The system configuration of Acer Aspire 4720Z PC Notebook is :

160 GB or larger hard disk drive / 5-in-1 card reader / 512 MB or 1GB DDR2 533 MHz DIMM module / Intel Pentium dual-core mobile processor technology T2310 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.46, 533 MHz FSB), Mobile Intel GL960 Express Graphics Chipset.

* Your system have "Mobile Intel GL960 Express Graphics Chipset" graphics accelerator card embedded in the motherboard. Like most of the laptops/notebooks, there is no room for upgrading the graphics card in the motherboard!

* But you can upgrade the RAM upto 2 GB using two DDR2 DIMM memory modules.

* If you want to play 3D games with better performance, switch to Windows XP SP2 and upgrade the RAM!

* If you want to upgrade the memory (RAM), you can check this site : http://www.laptoppartsexpert.com/c-60093-acer-aspire-4720-series-as4720z.html

Graphics card upgrade on Acer Extensa 5230E-901G16Mn laptop

Unfortunately, laptops are generally locked down in terms of graphics cards. The GPU is integrated into the laptop mainboard due to space constraints.

Your only option if tied down to a laptop for any reason would be to purchase a more recent laptop with a specific graphics card in it.

Any discrete (NVIDIA or ATI) graphics card that was manufactured after 2008 should be sufficient to run most games.

If you're looking to play games on more intense graphic settings, your best bet would be to look for laptops with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M/240M or better, or the ATI Mobility Radeon 4600/5400 or better. Either brand with at least 512 MB of video RAM will work well.

No problem want to upgrade

There are lots of possibilities Rob. Endless, I would say. Looking at your specs you could spend up to $400 or $500 depending on what you want.

RAM - $50 to max out @ 4GB
Graphics - $100 to $200 for a good PCI-Express card w/512MB
Sound - $50 to $100 for a good 7.1 card
CPU - $100 for a Pentium Dual Core 2.7GHz with 800MHz FSB

These prices are from www.tigerdirect.com which would be a good place to start.

One thing to consider is the price of a new computer compared with an upgrade. Sometimes you are better off just getting a new one. Again, it depends on what you want...and can afford.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.

Which Graphics card is suitable????

The is no solid answer because there are several factors to take into consideration.
First: Vista does not play games well yet.
It was released too soon and the Game Mfg's have not addressed the issue.
Many, many people are going back to XP OS. Do you know the MB mfg?
I am a Beta tester for a few game companies and for the most part, we use the BFG nVidia Video card. It is a GeForce based chipset. These cards are already Overclocked to their maximum and tested as stable. Lifetime Guarentee as well.
Is you MB a PCI-Express?
No matter what card you get, you still may not get to play the games until MS Vista gets in gear.

Which graphics card will be good for Acer Aspire M1610?

Is your computer still under the MFG's warrentee?
if so, if you open the case, it will void the guarentee.
Are you running VISTA?
If so, thats 75% of the issue.
Very few games are up to VISTA's mess. Its a driver issue.
Make sure you have the SERVICE PACK!
That may allow you to play.
Let me know please. Also more information would be helpful.
Thanks!

I have an acer aspire 1355xc {1350 series} notebook no video card

It's pretty common for notebooks to have 'integrated graphics' which can't be modified or replaced since they are part of the mother board and normally also share memory with other functions. Only higher end units aimed at gamers are equipped with video graphics hardware that can be replaced to upgrade.
If you would like to give your system a boost, consider adding some RAM; it is pretty cheap and then the 'stolen' 64 MB of memory used by the graphics chips is no longer a bottleneck.
"The second omission is that of a separate graphics card. Playing sophisticated 3D games is becoming a reality with a lot of the latest mobile chipsets, but certainly not yet for people on a budget, those days are still some way off. Instead, what Acer has supplied is an integrated S3 Savage 8 graphics core, which shares 64MB of the system memory."
