Hi, I have a bytecc external harddrive, and I'm trying to format it. I first used it with a windows hp laptop and am now using a macbook. I can't seem to delete anything from it. How can I unlock this capability? Thanks.

Need more info. Is it a USB connected external drive? Is it a newer laptop(windows 7). If both of these are yes, just plug the external drive into your laptop and windows should detect it and allow you to format for use if necissary. Also, if you purchased it, it may have come with a disk. If this is the case, don't hook anything up, put the disk in, and follow the insturctions. Hope this helped.
If it is a new hard drive then it needs to be formatted. You can do this by going into your start menu - control panel - administrative tools - computer management - disc manager. I could be a little off on the wording as I don't have my computer handy, but in the disc management you should be able to right click on the drive in here and choose format. This will format the drive to be used. I hope this helps.
Welcome to Fixya. if your External drive is not detected by your Ps3 console you need to format it and select Fat32 File system. Ps3 will not recognize external harddrive using NTFS Format make sure you format the drive using Windows XP or Windows 7. Windows Vista dont have Fat32 but Exfat File format. After you format the drive to Fat32 make sure you create a folder like Music, Photo, Video and other forlders so that it will be detected by your console.
First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer too then your harddrive has internal issue. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa
1. Extract the HDD
2. Put it in any HDD USB case. Buy it in the nearest PC shop - 20 bucks worth
3. Connect the case with HDD to another PC and format it.
4. Put HDD back to laptop.
There are no another way to blank HDD.
Cheers.
you need a compaq boot disk
ferkin compaqs are a pain in the O
try pulling the drive and inserting it into a portable enclosure than format it you will probably find there is 2 partions on the drive
usualy the first is the small 1 and it has only enough space the boot then it kicks to the second 1
if you use a portable enclosure and use the manage command you can see the partitions and you can format it as 1 huge drive rather than 2 smaller ones
Windows 98 don't have pre-installed drivers for mass storage, like external hdd, pen drive, flush memory etc.
So, you should install the driver for your external hdd then win 98 will recognize it. And you can use it. For you external drive driver you can surf your external manifacturer site.
dont copy any data from or too the disk then use recover software. like Recover My Files, and if you copy any data to that disk it will damage the data you want.
