Hi, seems to be a wellknown problem of Pavillon NB's. Looks like that the northbridge chip on the mainboard ist unsoldered. Even if somebody tells you do fix it by dropping the mainboard into your baking oven for a few minutes, don't try it! There are specialists who have the technical equipment and the knowledge to fix that problem. But in most cases it would not held a long time.

Check it is powering laptop,if not the jack has bad connection and not connecting to mainboard constantly,
Dobt thats what is happening in your case but need to rule it out for next step.
Remove the battery then try ac adaptor on its own.
Next try removing ram, insert one stick only, next sub it with other stick only,if still no good remove hard drive, you are attempting to get bios start screen to show up,if still no good you may be looking at mainboard power regulator ic fails, which are a real problem on some compaq models this also damages other components on the mainboard(google search will reveal what im on about)
Dont remember offhand but if its the type that has common mainboard fail its not worth repairing as the new boards always fail eventually due to same problem.
There are also light error codes in the back of the manual and available online to diagnose this by the type of lights showing up.
Have you tried attaching an external monitor when the LCD screen is disconnected from the motherboard? this connector is located under the keyboard strip – a piece of plastic just above the keyboard. If it works, this way, then the video cable isn’t seated properly in the connector on the back of the screen.Plugging the video cable back in should fix the problem. I don’t know how comfortable you are with taking apart laptops but I think that this information could be useful for you. Maybe there are some problem in your start button (the button wire connect to mainboard is Loosening.
Please press the start button for about 3-4 seconds then see it would start. Always it may solve the problem, this happend to my inspiron 6400 too, after used for years the start button failure. It shows only power lamp lights green but the other light cant light red.
If no, maybe your must change a power supply, as the lower volt current cant start all the device.
You have faulty RAM modules. Reseat your RAM modules, to make sure they make proper connection. If this doesn't work take them to your friendly computer shop and ask them to test them for you.
if you dont have any view on external monitor too there so 2 reasons for. 1 is mainboard (graphic chip) 2 is LCD data cable that comes from Mainboard and goes to LCD. need to go to Service
