start with checking the other solenoid, the conditioner one, it may be that that is not working, and double check the cold one, remove the two wires and check for a circuit, it may be actually filing up initially with hot water without realising it,
always work with safety remove the plug before removing panels etc

first check the water is switched on to the machine. If it is then you most likely have a faulty water valve. Switch all power off and remove the top panel should be 4 screws or so. If it has 1 valve then replace it.
if it has to go in the rinse,,this means you have to put it in the fabric softner compartment of the dispencer,,,also do not fill pass mark fill line in dispencer or it will sphion down by itself before time..onthejob
Following up my comment from yesterday, I took the machine apart and discovered that the black rubber cover on the valve that releases the cold water had perished and cracked, and wasn't opening properly.
I tested the hot and cold solenoids and everything checked out ok. Was just the cold valve sticking.
The wash cycle was working because I was using hot/warm water. As the rinse cycle needs cold water to get started, it was not working and the rinse and spin cycles wouldn't complete.
I have swapped the valves over for now (put the working hot one on the cold side and am using cold water only). It's working while I order a replacement...
