I installed new cartridges and closed the cover however the printer is still showing that the ink is empty for all of them. I tried to reinstall them turned it off and back on but no response.HELP!!!
Is this a genuine Brother cartridge or a compatible/refilled cartridge?
Inside, at the rear of the cartridge there is flag which when full blocks a sensor in the machine indicating the cartridge is full - with some compatible and refilled cartridges the flag may not be set correctly so the sensor sees that there is no ink in the cartridge.
As a temporary fix place some black tape over the rear of the cartridge where the sensor arm is.

Re:
Disal,
unplug the printer from powercable (not turn on/off). Open cover when printer is without power. Take the carts all out. Close cover. Plug printer to power. Machine demands carts so put them in. Machine should start cleaning cycle.

Hello , Start by opening your ink cover and read the LCD screen; this will alert you as to which ink cartridge is not being recognized; make sure the cartridge that it is telling you is empty has been changed. If the unit is still not recognizing the cartridge you have changed, follow the steps below.
Unplug the power cord for the printer unit.
Open the ink cartridge cover and remove all ink cartridges.
"The message #NO CARTRIDGE# may appear if one or more of the cartridges are not properly installed or an ink cartridge is defective, such as air bubbles, or empty. Verify all the
cartridges are installed correctly and they are not empty or
defective by following the steps listed
below:
NOTE: Cartridges that have already
been installed are no longer vacuum-sealed; it is very
important that the cartridge remains upright. If the
cartridge is removed and placed on its side, air may be introduced into the ink supply tubes, requiring repeated
cleaning before print quality is restored.
a. Lift the top cover to the open position
until it locks securely into place.
b. Then, remove all ink cartridges by pulling the white plastic
hook toward you and pulling the cartridges up and out of the
machine.
c. Because all the ink
cartridges have been removed, the LCD will prompt you to
install each color cartridge.
d.
Important!! Reinstall the ink cartridge(s) in the order of the LCD is instructing you too. Press down FIRMLY on the top of the
cartridge until it is fully seated. Push the white plastic
hook towards the cartridge to verify it is fully latched over
the top edge of the cartridge.
e. Close the top cover. The LCD will ask you if you have changed
the cartridge to new. Press 1 for yes and 2 for no. Press 1
for yes for each color. The LCD will alternately show
CLEANING and PLEASE WAIT. When the Brother machine completes
the cleaning cycle, the LCD returns to Standby mode.
Lift the scanner cover from the right-hand side of the MFC until it locks securely into the open position.
If one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example Black, the LCD shows Ink Empty Black and Cover is Open.
Pull the ink cartridge hook toward you and remove the ink cartridge for the color shown on the LCD.
Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD, and then take out the ink cartridge.
Remove the cartridge covers.
Each color has its own correct position. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright position when you insert it into slot. Press down on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over it.
Lift the scanner cover to release the lock. Gently push the scanner cover support down and close the scanner cover.
If you replaced an ink cartridge while Near Empty was displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that it was a brand new one. Example: Did You Change Blck? 1.Yes 2.No. For each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand new one, please be sure to select 2.
If you wait until Ink Empty message is displayed on the LCD, the MFC will automatically reset the ink dot counter.
If the Install message is on the display after you have installed ink cartridges, check that the ink cartridges are installed properly.
Hello! Remove the cartridges and gently wipe the cartridge contacts with a dry cloth, then put them back in. Then, hold the "resume" button for 10 seconds for each cartridge, that
should reset them. If that doesn't work, one of your cartridges (sadly) needs to be replaced.
Open the cover. Press the Ink/maint button (triangle shape on button) this moves the carriage to indicate empty cartridge. keep pressing until carriage moves to the ink replacement position. Open ink cartridge cover and remove the cart. Ensure you remove the yellow tape on new cart' before installing and be careful not to touch the chip on the cart'. Push new cart' in until it clicks. Close lid (ensure clicks down), close printer cover and press ink button again.
Please take a moment to rate this solution, thanks.
When one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example, Black, the LCD
shows “Ink Empty Black” and “Open Cover.” Close the printer’s document
support and the document tray.
Lift the top cover to the open position until it locks securely into place.
Pull the ink cartridge hook toward the front of the printer and remove
the color ink cartridge displayed on the LCD. Place the cartridge in a
plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD and
remove the new ink cartridge. The cartridge cover may come off when you
open the bag. This is not uncommon and will not damage the cartridge.
Each color has its own correct position that is clearly labeled and
color coded inside the printer. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright
position when you insert it into slot. It will only fit in the correct
direction. Press down on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over
it.
If you replaced an ink cartridge while “Near Empty” was displayed on
the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that the replacement cartridge
was brand new one. Example: “Did You Change Black? 1.Yes 2.No.” For
each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to
automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink
cartridge you installed is not a brand-new one, select 2.
