Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Since you already removed and reinserted the battery, try the other options.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

Sony Viao laptop just started shutting itself down while I was working on a word document. Laptop will not stay on more than a minute or two after booting up even if nothing is open. Battery is charged

Disconnect external devices. Remove battery and power cord. Then reposition them again. Be sure battery is locked with the switch at the bottom of the unit. Keep charger connected. If issue continues it may require service.
If you can see VGN-CS on the upper left corner of the lid (your unit's model number) you will need to call Sony as this is a known issue

My Sony Viao wont stay charged and when i try to power it up, it shuts down by itself at the sign in screen. It wont let me get past the sign in screen,

Are you using a Sony Battery or an aftermarket cheaper version?
If your battery has been changed to a different brand then thats your problem and a whole problem in itself. Not saying there is anything wrong with that, but the Sony ISBmngr.exe file will stop the charging of any battery exept Sony's and put the system into hibernation mode. ( website with Info below)....
If you have the original manufacturers battery then go on.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the typical charging-plug, jack, for laptops. Many times the plug itself is bumped over time and pushes on the pin in the center. The charging time becomes very short, if at all, because the connection is broken. Some are completely or because of the position of the wire holding it just right long enough to give a short charge.

32917b9.png With a Voltmeter ,check the output of the charger itself to be sure it is working properly.
Although VIAO has been out for a while & because the model was not listed here the age of the battery may also be in question. If the battery has shorted out and the charging unit & jack are fine then a bad battery that has shorted will cause you symptoms also. Try removing the battery and running on the charger alone.
Here are a couple of sites that I found that deal with Sony VIAO's

My Sony VIAO won't even turn on

remove the battery and unplug the power. Hold the power button for 90 sec, do not plug in the battery yet. plug in the power and turn it back on. If the problem persist then it sounds like the motherboard is bad. Either replace the MB or part out the Laptop piece by peice and use the money to buy a new one. You get way more if you part it out then to try and sell it broken.

Toshiba M35X-S109 Doesnt Start

you may have a faulty motherboard connection, but try connecting the power adapter in without the battery and see if it runs, then replace the battery back in the compartment.
