Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

I want to link 2 installed hard drives on my laptop

My drive c: says its down to 28% free space (it's 105GB), I've installed a 2nd hard drive, 320GB and want to link the two drives to read as one drive. Is this possible? or should I move/re-install software onto the 2nd hard drive. In other words, I'd like to make the larger drive my main drive.

You cant link them together as they are logical DOS drives.

You will need to copy ALL files from your old drive to your new one. Google 'copy drives' or 'drive copy' for some free software to do it.

When done, remove the cable from the old drive - and put the new drive in it's place. Make sure 'MSTR' is on the new drive selected so windows/dos knows that it is the primary drive.

If this works and windows boots fine THEN you can format the old drive and use it as back up.

Installing a 320 gb hard drive in a Dell Inspiron N4020

The computer restore is trying to partition the drive into 2 logical drives and it cannot allocate the space it needs. Unless you have a clone of the drive or other hard drive there is nothing that you can do except get the right size.

I have 320GB hard dsik capacity. But yesterday i have given by laptop to format and install OS(Windows 7). But now i am able to see only 296GB. Please let me know what will happen to remaining space.

There are many reasons.......

Maybe you have available unpartitioned space left in the hard disk. To check this:
1. Right click on the "Computer" icon on the desktop and select "manage"
2. After the Computer Management window appears, select Disk Management. It should show you if you have any unpartitioned drive space.
3. You can up or format your unpartitioned spaces from hereon. may be your harddisk is corrupted and has space 296GB only
or sometimes all drives contains some space for system file in that space is hidden

I installed a 320gb hard drive and loaded Win XP (original edition). I upgraded to SP3 but the size of the hard drive is still 128gb instead of 320gb. How do I get it to recognize the remaining HD space?

click start control panel administration tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties from there you will see all used and free space on your hard drive also

if you select tools check now tick in both boxes auomatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors this will schedule on restart you should not have any input while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer

hope this helps you

Have an older asus pc 900 with 20g in 2 seperate discs. the c drive only have 4g, and can't even update windows, any solutions. or how to add more space to the c drive, thank

If this drive is partitioned as it appears to be, then the only way to make the c: drive bigger is to backup your data and delete both partitions and recreate the partition as a single drive. Then re-install your windows program, restore your programs and recover your data from backup.

You could also purchase an external hard disk drive to store data in and leave your partitiions alone.

The hard disk inside that Spire case has died - running the free space clean from CCleaner (a very intensive procedure) has been the death blow to an already sick disk.. Nothing more can be done to save it and the data on it. Replace it with a new one.

There's a free program that works great for partitioning hard drives and restoring boot logs. It's called GParted and can be downloaded at the link below. You can choose from there if you want the Live CD or to run it within your operating system.
