Question about Kenmore 62602 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Loud buzz when starting, then shutting down after 10 min.

This is a Knemore series 80 dryer... the dryer has a loud buzz when starting - if i hold the start button the motor will engage and the buzz stops. the dryer will run for about 5 min, then start making a loud humming noise like a bathroom vent and then shut down 5 min later, if I let it rest for a few min, i can start the whole process again. is this the motor going bad? a new motor will run over $100. wanted to make sure it was the motor and nothing else before spending the money.

Yes, this sounds like the motor cutting out on thermal lockout.

Any idea why my dryer is shutting off after a short time?

Sounds like the motor is going into thermal overload and shutting down. If you here a Buzzing noise when you start dryer motors bad. If after you start the dryer wait and stop it after 10 min and then try and restart it if it buzzes and rattles bad motor.

Aha!
You are going to make me guess!
I am guessing you have to hold the start button down.
So.
Try a new start button first.
If that does not fix it, replace the timer/control unit.
God bless your efforts.

My dryer keeps shutting off after about 10-15 mins. It starts make a noise likes it's slowing down just before it shuts off. If I try to push the knob back in to restart. It will make a buzzing noise. If I...

Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. Rotate the drum 2-3 revolutions and then shut the door and see if it will start. If it continues to just hum and not start could indicate a voltage issue, motor issue or a friction issue. Open the door again and locate the door switch plunger in the upper or lower corner on the hinge side of the drum opening. Hold the plunger in while someone begins rotating the drum counterclockwise. While turning the drum counter clockwise and holding the door switch plunger inwards press the start button. If it starts, there is likely a friction problem or motor problem.

Knemore 80 series dryer won't start every time

Go to www.repairclinic.com and enter your model number and it will show you all your parts, but I suggest you change your thermostats and basically have the dryer cleaned out of possible lint build up on the interior
