Question about Linksys BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router W/4 Port Switch, Retail Box (DSLSBEFSR41)
I have a BEFSR41 Linksys router. Yesterday, my computer failed to connect to the Internet. I kept getting the "Page is not available" message. After contacting my ISP (Shaw Cable) and trying a number of unplugging steps and rebooting procedures, the issue was unresolved. It wasn't until I bypassed the router and plugged the modem directly into my computer that I was able to briefly connect to the Internet. Today, I contacted Linksys and told the technician that I was unable to get the IP Address through the router, as my ISP told me to say. Linksys wanted $30 to continueto help, so I said no and found this site on the Internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dennis
Ok, first... hook up your router to your modem. Go and get a drink and chill out for 15 minutes or so... that'll give their network time to realize your MAC Address has changed. If it doesn't work, bring up your browser and type 192.168.1.1 (could be 192.168.0.1 as well) in your Address bar. The default login is usually "admin" (sometimes Linksys leaves the User field blank too) and the default password is "password". Check the status page for a WAN IP Address, if you have one contact Shaw Cable and get them to check to see if they can "ping" it (they'll know what that means). If you don't have an IP Address, you may have to use PPPoE to authenticate your account... verify that with Shaw as well. If it's PPPoE, then you should have a username and password that they have assigned to you. If the first line person can't help you, don't let it go... get them to get a Tier 2 or 3 person on the line.
