Our refrigerator is 1 year old and about 6 months ago it started to make a slightly louder noise at is dispensed water. Now it is a high shrill squeal. I have looked at the lines to check for a kink or blockage, but didn't get any insight.

You may have to remove the line from the ice maker solenoid and check to see if it has a screen. If it does you may have to clean it. You will find the solenoid at the bottom in the back. Just follow the water line as it comes into the refer. at the bottom. It should be attached to the valve. Sometimes there is a copper line that has a female connector that screws into the valve. It is sometimes the size of a regular garden hose. Whether it is or isn't if it is removable remove it and check for a screen. If there is one clean it. If there is not you may have to replace the valve to get rid of the noise as sometimes the solenoids get weak or swell and they won't open up all the way.

it's still under warranty for up to 1 year, call whoever you bought it from and it should be repaired free of charge and next time you write send model number.
Change the water filter and then purge the water into glasses or buckets for about a total of 3 minutes, then you should be fine. Otherwise, if you have problems after completing that, then you have a blockage or restriction in the water valve.
its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..
I would suggest that you put the new water filter back in and try dispensing water for about ten minutes. If there is still a high pitched noise then you could try bleeding the water line at different points along the water circuit (with control over the incoming supply). The fact that you are forcing water through the tank should normally resolve any air locks. The water filter could also be bled of air. Hope this is of some help.
