Pioneer VSX-1020 problem after nearby lightning strike: Powers off immediately after hitting power button. PQLS button flashes in front screen. Verified 5.6V on C51 voltage regulator on main board. Looking for advice what else I can check as well as a place which might offer a decent price on repair.

Lightening can cause a lot of problems and it is not always the first item you see that it can effect. You might have an over current condition from another part that was damaged or maybe a Tantalum cap in the unit somewhere- they do not like voltage spikes. it just takes some good old troubleshoots.

With the receiver off, press ENTER + ADVANCED SURROUND keys continuously for 2 sec. and it will tell you the fault it encountered. Even if it has a short, it will still protect the speakers; however, it is still a good idea to disconnect all speakers before doing this.

SOURCE: Pioneer VSX-1019 with a flashing red MCACC

you can "release" the error by pressing the "down arrow" and the "zone 2 on/off" for 2 seconds.

SOURCE: My pioneer vsx-519V-k amp won't turn on. Just

Have you checked within the set, the fuse and if the standby circuit is working. thre could be a failure of this sub votage which is required for the switch on of the main power. If you do not have any standby indication you must check this section, however if you arre getting the standby you would have a failed output or a shorting that is triggering the error amp to swtich off. If you are familiar with the circuits you can check but I would suggest that since you will need more experience to look into the main board for tracing the fault. In such case check for the service centre nearest to the place you are in using a google search for Pioneer - Audio systems- sevice. Helpful I hope. Good day.

I have a pioneer vsx-524-k, it powers on then off immediately

Most likely there is a short in the amplifier that will need to be repaired.

Will a nearby lightning strike cause a power board failure?

It could happen yes it would depend where the strike entered the TV. Not all lighting strikes hit on the electrical lines, on a TV they can come through the cable, as well as a antenna if you have one hooked up.

My pioneer vsx 815 amplifier has a flashing blue standby light. Have tried resetting by pressing enter and advanced surround keys. All it does is flash a few other LEDs and then goes back to the flashing...

"enter and advanced surround keys"? I don't see that documented as a special function in the manual.

BTW: other than the Flashing light, is there a malfunction?

Page 72 describes how it REALLY resets...

Resetting the main unit

Use this procedure to reset all the receiver's settings to the factory default. Use the front

panel controls to do this.

1 Switch the receiver into standby.

2 While holding down the TONE button, press and hold the STANDBY/ON button for about three seconds.

3 When you see RESET? appear in the display, press ENTER .

OK? shows in the display.

4 Press SYSTEM SETUP to confirm.

OK appears in the display to indicate that the receiver has been reset to the factory default
settings.

Check if Zone 2 is 'On' if it is set it to 'Off' using the front panel button. Hitting the 'Recieiver' and 'Setup' buttons is the correct way to set the system up.
