Hi, i have a GPS Not TomTom, with Win CE5.0 Samsung chipset -S3C2440A-400. Trying to use Tomtom 6.o that I purchased on an SD card. Set Navigation to look for TT Setup System will not recognise it. Is it possible to install TT6 onto an SD card so all the files are available ? Regards ~Phill
OK Now, there is a guide in Tomtom Home that shows how to install onto SD Card, just need to borrow a tomtom gps to do it, so it is formatted correctly, then TTHome will used it in a card reader.

When the TomTom navigation software (on your SD card) is bad (corrupted, error) an X is shown on the screen ...
You'll want to try to recover the software from your backup (that you have made on your computer).
If you also have the TomTom navigation software on the main memory, try removing the SD card and start the GPS up again. If that works, you'll want to restore/re-install the copy of the navigation software on your SD card.
Otherwise, you'll need to connect your device to the HOME (or MyDrive Connect) software (on your computer/laptop) to see if you can re-install the software.
Recently, TomTom has decided to limit/stop support (including software/maps, etc.) for certain (older) models of TomTom GPS. If your model is one of those, you're out of luck. TomTom is trying to have you buy a new model.
I can help some people who have problems with their TomTom but here is a tip for you to help yourself against future problems.
Backup your SD card to your PC.
Do this by removing the SD card from your TomTom. Insert it into an SD card reader conencted to your PC. Make a new folder on your PC called TomTom Backup. Then open that folder and copy all the files from your TomTom SD card into the TomTom Backup folder. Job done.
Data can be corrupted on SD cards and SD cards can easily be damaged. I you end up with a damaged card then at least you will have a backup of it on your PC. This can save you a lot of money as trying to get a TomTom going again without the software is very expensive.
If you're refering to upgrading your Navigation software, QuickGPSfix data and/or your current (out-dated) map, you can do it by connecting to the TomTom website (www.TomTom.com) using the TomTom HOME or MyDrive Connect software, depending on the model/version of your GPS device.
If you're refering to upgrading your GPS hardware/equipment, to have more capability/features, the device is not hardware upgradable, except for adding/using an SD card with a higher storage/memory capacity (to store more info/maps, etc.) ... provided you have a GPS device with an SD card slot.
You'll want to consider buying a newer model with more capabilities / features than what you have now.
It is quite common tomtom bug. Do: 1. backup restore or
2. copy all original SD files to your new formated SD card. Restart TomTom and
see if it works.
If your navigation device shows only the start-up image or you see a
flashing cross after you switch it on, it means that the TomTom
application is not installed or cannot be found.
The downloaded maps can be copied direct to the SD card or copied to the SD card via USB lead and PC connected through TomTom Home. Once you have the map on your SD card you will need to activate it with your product code number that you obtained when you purchased the map.
You definitely need software and maps on an SD card. The TOMTOM will not work without a card inserted. The card will contain MAPS , Map authorisation codes ( to show they are genuine TOMTOM maps bought and paid for ) , POI ( points of interest ), GPS fix data , voices ( for spoken navigation ) etc etc etc. ....................
PLEASE NOTE , TRYING A CARD FROM ANOTHER TOMTOM is very unlikely to work. Each card has an authorisation code that is generated via an algorithm inside each TOMTOM and is device specific.
However , trying a card from another tomtom might produce a diferrent result but still not work , at least this might prove that the tomtom is working OK before you rush out and buy a tomtom card.
If you have the programs downloaded from tomtom home then you need to copy them to the sd card that you purchased. In the home program you can choose to install the programs and map to the sd card. It takes a bit of a search to get the tomtom home program understood. The credit card with the codes is an authorization code for the program.
OK Now, there is a guide in Tomtom Home that shows how to install onto SD Card, just need to borrow a tomtom gps to do it, so it is formatted correctly, then TTHome will used it in a card reader.
