Hi Klaus, RE: your having lost the bearings from your RT 7210-1 laser - the loss of the bearings probably makes the base unit unusable; however, the transmitter is probably still good. I am in need of a transmitter and if you wish to dispose of yours, please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks

Grinding noise front wheel

1st have the brake pads checked, then if the pads are OK you likely have a defective wheel bearing/hub assembly

NAD 501 CD player reading error

Hi there,
There are a few ways to determine a lazy spindle motor.
  • listen to it. If it sounds like a diesel engine, with regular knocking sounds, bearings are failing... new motor
  • sit the unit on its side, see if it then reads...if bearings are worn, this reduces "slop"in the motor that can contribute jitter to the RF waveform. If it plays then, new motor
  • put a drop of oil into the top bearing of the motor. If it starts to read and run ok, then the bearing may be tight, and need lube, or the oil is acting as a hydraulic bearing. It will not fix the problem if it is a worn bearing. ...new motor.
  • if it spins up slow, and with screeching noise, the bearings are tight. see below for a solution.
Some other solutions.,
  • disconnect the connections to the motor remove a top mounting screw from the motor, and use a straw to flood the motor with crc 2-26, and spin up for 5 minutes one direction at 12 volts, then the other direction. Cleans the armature and brushes.
I always use a steel ruler to measure the height of the platter to the deck of the transport. then set the spindle height for the new motor up to the same as I measured. Happy to answer and questions that you may have. I have repaired literally hundreds of cd players over the years... including many NADs Cant recall just what the 501 has. But spindle motors cause a lot of problems with cd players.

2003 Sierra 2500hd transmission or transfer case making grinding noise (sounds like a bearing going bad) it becomes louder when i give it gas. i checked the fluid in the transfer case which looked ok, i...

Sudden grinding noise with no prior warning * Primarily in 2nd gear, behavior in reverse may be abnormal; sunshell is fractured. R&R. Try not to run or drive the car or further damage could result.

* Reaction planetary is worn out due to high miles or insufficient lubrication. Not a critical failure, but not a good sign either. R&R sooner rather than later.

* Either a torrington bearing or a planetary bearing is on its way out. Trans will eventually die a loud, catastrophic death. Cheaper to rebuild now (saves further damage to hard parts), but requires R&R. It is drivable until it breaks.

Good luck and thank you for using fixya.

Hello i fixed a xbox 360 and tried playing a game and everything was ok but it says play dvd and it will not let me play a game but only dvd have any idea?

This is a drive fault, have you put the power and sata cables back in the drive upside down? turn then around and test again. The laser may just be dirty, carefully clean with some alchol and a q tip.Are you using the original drive for that console? if not you may have the wrong drive installed. Did you drop or bang the drive when it was removed, the laser could have become mis aligned, there are plenty of guides on youtube if you want to have a go at a fix yourself at re aligning.
Remember thumbs up if this helps.

Error message displayed

That is either a laser scanner error or a memory malfunction. If you hear noise from the laser when it starts to print, then the laser bearings are dry. You have to carefully remove the laser assembly and add a few drops of oil to the bearings, a new laser will be best.

Dr Dray would like further assistance robotek!

no worries mate... firstly, remeber that mains voltages can kill and you should always disconnect the unit from the power before taking the covers of and work safe.
What we plan to do is to
  1. Clean dried grease from the worm drive gear that move the laser optics back and forth.
  2. Clean the laser lens
  3. lube the spindle motor bearings
You will need

cotton buds
methylated spirits
light oil
fine sewing needle

Using a cotton bud moistened with metho, clean the the old dried grease of the worm drive gear. Removing the laser transport from the unit is often the best way to do this. Be sure to not touch any of the connections to the laser itself if you unplug it from the main board. They are very electrostatic sensitive, and can be damaged by the static charge on your person. Be meticulous to clean it well. I use light oil(sewing machine) or if you have it, some graphite grease to then relube it. Apply a drop of oil to the top bearing of the spindle motor (use a fine needle with the oil in the eye to get under the platter to do this. Clean the laser lens with a moistened cotton bud and then polish with a dry one to be sure there is no residue.

Reassemble the unit and see how it goes. If you have any more dramas, a replacement laser assembly can be got and basically plugged into these units with no extra setup. I reccomend using a marantz original if you can . It is described as a cdm12.1 transport. Let me know how you go.

Ps2 slim line

if the laser is moved to the middle of the area and when you first turn it on it doesn't go back to starting possession's then some thing is wrong with the motor drive more than not it's likely you have a crack in the board.

Skipping and Jumping

try CLEANING THE LASER FOCAL LENS with a cotton bus and windex. use a dry fresh one to remove any film after cleaning. IF problem persists, run machine on its end when mistracking occurs(may be hard if yo doing a gig). If the mistracking stops(because the top bearing in the motor is worn) then it may require a new spindle motor. A double check for worn bearings is a drop of 3 in 1 oil to the top bearing of the motor. If the mistracking stops, REPLACE MOTOR. Oiling it is just a short term solution and it will fail again.
If its not the spindle motor, you may need to REPLACE LASER ASSEMBLY I would do both for a commercial unit that does gigs. Where possible i also check the price of a COMPLETE NEW TRANSPORT. This way you get fresh load belts and tracking drive assly too. At any time replacing the laser, remember to check for(and remove) a solder short circuit across the laser diode to protect it from damage by electrostatic discharge. Do this after you have installed the loom if possible. And of course work electrostatic safe, at least GET A WRIST BAND while you are getting the spares.
