Here are step by step instructions on how to connect your Nintendo Wii to the internet. Please note you will need access to a wireless internet connection, or must have a wireless router in order to connect your Wii to the internet. The Wii only connects via wireless signal!
You will need a device called a Wii LAN adapter, which will connect to the back of the Wii console, and then connect to your Ethernet cable. Since the Wii is not packaged with this device, you must purchase it from Nintendo's site, or at retail from a store that has the Wii's LAN adapter in stock. Fortunately, Nintendo's Wii LAN adapter is not expensive at retail, and most compatible with the console.
Error Code: 51420
The Wii console is not able to connect to your wired router or modem.
If your connection worked previously, check to see if there is a Wii System Update that you have not aquired. To get the latest Wii System Update:
From the Wii's main menu, select the Wii icon along the bottom left of the screen.
Select "Wii Settings".
Click the left arrow to get to Wii System Settings 3
Choose "Wii System Update"
Choose "Yes" to connect to the internet and perform a Wii system update.
Make sure that you are using the Wii LAN Adapter made by Nintendo. LAN adapters not made by Nintendo likely will not work with the Wii console.
Check to make sure you are not running the Wii LAN Adapter from a USB hub (a device that connects multiple USB products through a single device), as this will likely not work. Connect the USB Connector directly to the modem or router.
Ensure that the Wii LAN Adapter setup is correct, and that the Wii LAN Adapter was connected with the console turned off.
Check to see if the ethernet cable you are using is not working properly, by connecting another ethernet cable from your router/modem to the Wii LAN Adapter. If the connection works using a different cable, then the problem was with the first cable.
If possible, try another Wii LAN Adapter. If you are unable to try another Wii LAN Adapter, or are still receiving this error code, please call 1-800-255-3700 for assistance.
Netflix Instant is
available for streaming on your Wii gaming console by early spring 2010.
If you have a Netflix subscription you can watch movies and episodes
easily on your TV through your Wii console. This article will detail
the important things you will need to make sure that you can watch
Netflix from the Wii.

1
Check you Netflix subscription.
The minimum subscription plan to watch Netflix instantly is the
unlimited 1 DVD at a time plan or otherwise the $8.99 plan. This plan
allows to watch movies instantly with unlimited monthly hours.
2
Check internet
bandwidth on your broadband connection. According to Netflix the
minimum bandwidth requirement is 1.5Mbps. Netflix recommends for
watching movies instantly a 3.0Mbps connection. Check with your
internet service provider to confirm that these download speeds.
3
A wired connection to your Wii
console. An ethernet connection to your Wii console would be
preferable. Unfortunately the Wii console does not have an ethernet
port but a USB port. A USB LAN Adapter can be found at most computer
supply merchants or online from Wii or Amazon.com. The ethernet
connection is an ethernet wire from your home LAN router connected to
your USB LAN adapter. The USB LAN adapter is then connected to the USB
port on the Wii console. This connection will be how Netflix provides
the movie streaming feed to the Wii.
4
Sign up at the Netflix website
for the Streaming Disc. Netflix will send a specially programmed disc
to setup the Wii for watching the movies. When the disc arrives Netflix
will provide instructions on how to install onto the Wii gaming
console.
The wii does not come with an ethernet port (or place to connect to wired internet) built in. It's primary internet connection is through wifi or wireless internet. A USB adapter can be bought (like these) Those plug into the back of the console in the usb port.
not every USB to Ethernet adapter works for the Wii. Here's what I've found from Nintendo's site. You may need to connect with your Wi-Fi and update it first.
