GE 25922 5.8 Ghz Gives Unavailable display and static discturbance
My answer:
Not sure why the first part of your Problem was all garbled up unless you were using HTML format??
Unfortunately I can relate totally to your GE cordless 5.8Ghz phone problem all too well.
Pleaseread
everything below - even if it sounds unimportant. Once youdo youwill
understand everything about cheaply made stuff sold here inthe USAtoday.
Had
the very same experience with an almost identicalcordless phonesystem
with the same everything features. Only it wascalled anOlympia. The
Company is now defunct, as in OUT OF BUSINESS.Guess why?
All
these cheap "throw-away" phones are made by thesame China Cooverseas
under contract for various companies having USAbased roots.Everyone
from AT&T to GE included! I've since boycottedGE for badwashing
machine transmissions that were all made in China, and thatthey will not
do a RECALL on! Why you ask? Because they don'tcare thatis why! Also
boycotted GE for bad refrigerators,as well as SONY for their junk as well. If we just stop buying theseJUNK brands they will go away permanently!
WhenI
contacted that Olympia CS Dept 800# theyfirst redirected me to
aMOTOROLA "Fulfillment Center" somewhere, andthen to another one
linkedto Giant Intl as in www.giantintl.com, as Iguess they handle
complaintsfor all this cheap "branded" Made in Chinajunk we are now
stuck with.Remember that name - for if you ever see itanywhere on the
next thingyou are buying that is made in China - youmight want to walk
away fromit like a bad plague!
Olympia
sent me out3 FREE replacement phone set upgrades to replace myinitial
bad 2.4Ghzsingle handset phone. Each one they sent me out as aFREE
replacementupgrade was worse then the 1st.
The 1st one being a
singlehandset with answering machine that had echoproblems and noise
feedbackup the kazoo and then the digital displaywent out after only 2
monthsuse.
The 2nd one being a dual handset with answering machine that had the same echo effects and feedback problems.
The3rd
one being a 5.8Ghz dual handset system with no answeringmachinethat
sounded like a geared motor was running inside the phone, not tomention
feedback as well.
After that the CS Dept said I was toast and nothing more could be done.
Sincemy
first phone was FREE anyway - I figured what the heck I hadnothingto
lose, and so that is why I tried to at least get 1 goodworking phoneout
of the 3.
I wound up just stripping down the very 1storiginal
2.4Ghz phone forparts (ie: power adapter, good Ni-MH battpack, etc),
and then did thesame with the 1st 2.4Ghz replacementphone set as
well as the 3rd5.8Ghz phone set. So I wound up with a lotof nice AC
adapters and 4more spare Ni-MH batts, and various other spare parts. I already found uses for 2 of those AC adapters btw!!
Ialso
did a little investigating into that 2nd phone set - thatworkedsomewhat
OK - and here's what I found out that was wrong withitinside. All I
wanted to do is make the BEEP tone a bit louderbyopening up that small
pin hole in the case cover. So I removed the2small screws in the batt
compartment and carefully pried open the2handset body halves. What I
found inside shocked me.
Instead ofthe antenna wire being
pointed in the UP direction - so thatit wouldrest inside the handset's
antenna nub on top - guess what? Itwas foldeddownwards alongside the IF
circuit board thus causingfeedback inducednoise back to the phone base
unit. NICE huh?
5-10 seconds and alittle bit of re-bending and
VOILA - best receptionI ever had! Did thesame thing with the 2nd
handset, as this was thephone system with 2handsets. I also opened up
the answering machinebase and re-directedthe top antenna wire more
upwards as well, as itwas laying way tooclose to the IF circuit-board
as well.
What a difference thismade, and here the Private Label
company thatmade them didn't evenrealize their error on what was
probably millionsof these cheaply made"throw-away" phones! The other
thing I hear thatgoes out on these"branded" cheap phones is the
display, such as thatwhich happened on my1st replacement phone. Oh well
- what do youexpect for $3?
Reason I say $3 -
