Okay, so I have a Motorola SBG6580 SURFboard modem... When I reset it, the power turns on properly, and it goes through the reset process. The sending light flashes green, then goes solid. The receiving light flashes green, and goes solid. Then the internet light flashes green. However, as soon as that third light goes solid, it disappears, and the previous two lights start flashing simultaneously. The top light (I think its the sending... I;m not looking at the modem right now) is blue during the flashing, and the one below it is green. I've waited hours to see if it would pass and it doesn't... I also tried just unplugging it for a whole night to make sure it got its proper rest time, and that did not work either. (I have a tendency to not leave it unplugged long enough to properly reset.) What is the problem with my modem? This only happened after a technician came to our house...

SOURCE: Cannot set up Motorola Surfboard SB5120 modem

This usually means something is not correct with your incoming signal. If your cable wire into the modem is being run off an amplifier in the wall this could be effecting your service. If the signal is too strong the modem won't be able to communicate for internet.

You could check the incoming wire to see if it is running off an amplifier. If it is you would need to run a new line that is not on the amplifier. I would recommend comcast coming out to check the signal frequency and make the necessary adjustments.

SOURCE: Arris cable modem

if the power light is flashing then the modem is on battery backup and internet is disabled. plug the power cord into the modem or find a working power outlet, you should be set after that.

I have a Motorola SURFboard Gateway SBG6580 modem. I want to use the wireless for my DS lite but it says that I need an WEP key, but I don't know how to enable it. Help!

Your wireless is set up with a password. You need to get that password before you can connect any more devices. From a computer that can connect to the internet go to 192.168.0.1. Then type admin for the username and motorola for the password. I believe from there you click Wireless then click Primary Network. You should see your wireless network name and password from there. I'm getting this from the modems manual here: http://www.midcocomm.com/_files/files/SBG6580.pdf

In need of a user manual for SBG6580 wireless router

The User Manuals for many of the Motorola modems and gateways are available from Motorola on their support site: http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Consumer-Support/Cable-Modems-and-Gateways . Select your model. On the next page, use the drop down menu to select User Manual in the Select A Topic drop-down menu. Then click Search. The direct link to the manual for the SBG6580 is http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/US-EN/Home-and-Office/Cable-Modems-and-Gateways/SBG6580-SURFboard-Wireless-Cable-Modem-Gateway/Documents/Static-Files/SURFboard_SBG6580_UserGuide.pdf . Note you will need Adobe Reader or a similar program to read the file.

I hope this helps.
