First there is a seprate snap frame around screen itself, there about four location on snap frame , 2 on each side ,use flat screw driver to seperate frame, there in slots like, there might be 2 on the top also, then go for screws in back, remove button panel from front side and remove flat wire connections to the board ,they pull out of slot on board , be careful putting them back in ,take your time they will go back in by pushing on the stiff part, about a 1/8 or so from the end to go in. of the connection,go for the VGA connection ,you will remve screws to seperate screen it self to get to the connection, it just pulls out of the socket on the board, hope this helps

Dell E173FPf 17 vertical line problem

Yes, but the cost is not worth it. If you get it apart you will no doubt find a couple of bulging capacitors. Dell site has the disassembly instructions.

Dell E173FPc 17" TFT when turned on goes black

Hi Gaz,

First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. What are the results please?

Dell 1704FPTt 17" TFT LCD Flat

I used to repair LCD monitor from Dell. There are 4 screws for rear panel and no screw for front frame. If there is no visible screw, you have to look for "capped" screw holes (little covers that fit flush with the case to hide the screws). If you don't see these neither, this must be a tension fit case. So, face the screen up and look for "rectangular hole" on the side edge (usually at the bottom edge of the screen). This will be a challenge to open without breaking it. You'll need a very thin flat screw driver and wedge it into that narrow rectangular hole. You can use any prybar if you don't have screw driver. It is not too deep. You may stab something important inside and pry it. Once it starts to spread, start sliding it along the seem and you should feel the tension tabs start "popping" open. Continue to work your way around until it's off. Hope this will help you to get the rear panel off. If there is anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,

you have snap frame around the screen itself use flat screw driver fine edge, theres about four locations that snap into slots work them away and remove frame, then remove screws on back will seperate ,you will have to remove monitor button panel board to, once inside, four screws around screen itself once in side, this will lead you to power connection inside main screen frame, the board and the connections
