BIOS chip is on the motherboard - you would obviously have to access the MoBo first..... It will have the manufacturers name on it, something like Award/phoenix/AMI & it may very well be soldered in. BE WARNED - altering/flashing the BIOS should only be attempted by ADVANCED users otherwise you will say goodbye to your PC. Regards, Freddie

I want to clear CMOS

The CMOS is a block of static RAM that will lose its data if power is removed.
most newer laptops are using a small block of Flash RAM (perhaps a block of addresses within the Flash BIOS chip itself) or other type of EEPROM chip to store the password.

No amount of removing batteries and pressing power buttons will change it

you might get some more information from the manual

Laptop SONY VAIO VPCEB32FM: how to remove BIOS password

The BIOS password is probably the Power On Password.
This method may not work. Remove the BIOS battery for 20 mins until the charge in the BIOS is depleted. Insert the BIOS battery go into the BIOS setting and set the Date and Time etc.
If this does nor work then the BIOS password is stored on an EEPROM chip and removing the BIOS battery won't work and there is probable no backdoor passwords.
The Sony support maybe able to offer a solution, check the support WEB site..

Bios password

Removing the BIOS battery did not reset the BIOS password because the BIOS password is stored on an EEPROM chip. Please click www.laptopmasterpassword.net

Help ..

The BIOS password can be removed on older laptops and computers by removing the BIOS battery, wait for 1/2 + hour then insert the battery back again. The BIOS will be reset to the default state and you will need to go tinto the BIOS configureation to set the Time & Date etc.
If this does not work, it means that the BIOS password is stored on an EEPROM chip and there is no backdoor password available and is extremely difficult to remove.

How Do I Boot A Sony VAIO PCG-Z505LS model # PCG-531A?

The BIOS one can usually be eliminated  by disconnecting the battery and shorting the terminals, if necessary, then plugging the battery back in.    The administrator pass work can sometimes be gotten around by pressing the F8 while loading, then changing it.   The most undesirable option is to reformat and buy another OS.   Sorry for the hard time.

RAM problem

Hello, if you have an intel m processor for your sony then u are somewaht out of luck. the base memory is 256 megs and it is not in the motherboard but rather integrated in one of the slots itself, that means if u put a 512 mb chip into that certain slot it will only read 256. a lot of people are mislead into thinking they can put two 512s and get a gig of memory, but not true, at least not with most of the sony intel processors. find the base slot by switching chips around, then leave the 256mb chip there. then u can add a 512mb to the expandable slot and get over 700bytes. if u can find a 1gb compatible stick, then try that the same way, leave the original hynix base slot chip in and add the 1gb, if u can find one, then u will have a little over 1280 of which u can up the video graphic usage up to 128 in the bios, and have your 1gb in memory. if u find a 1gb memory chip that work, drop a line as to what brand and size u used
