Connected Linksys Rangepluw Wireless PCI adapter to router. Got good signal strength. Getting Internet Explorer Cannot Display web page. Talked to tech support from Linksys and my ISP. Typed in ISP address, as I was getting message that device was searching for IP address. I did this with help from tech support. Removed windows service pack 3, with direction for tech support. Turned off router and restarted both router and computer. Still getting same message that IE cannot display web page.
Any suggestion? I do know some things about the computer, but I am not highly technical savy, so keep explanations simple if you can.
The problem was in the wep key. I entered the old wep key, not recalling that we had to trade our router in for a new one last summer. When I entered the new wep key we were able to get online.

try changing the wireless channel on the router and see if that makes any difference.
Open the setup page of the router. Go to wireless tan and change the standard channel to 11. save the settings.
You can also try updating the drivers of the wireless adapter on your computer. If your router is too old then you must upgrade the firmware on the router. See how to upgrade Linksys router firmware
connected to wireless router with excellent signal may not means you are connected to internet. make sure your modem provided by internet service provider has signal! connect your computer to modem directly bypassing router. If you are online that means your internet is functional. Then connect modem to your Linksys router and use your wireless to log on to internet. Your router wireless signal active and excellent means you are connected to router not necessarily the internet. The modem supplied by your internet service provider with active internet should be connected to you router on WAN port! good luck!!
Make sure you are plugging the SMC into the WAN port on the Linksys router and not the LAN ports. Your internet connection (which is your SMC) should always plug into your WAN port on the Linksys. Any computers that you may need to plug in, like Desktops that are "wired" and not "wireless", should plug into the LAN ports on the Linksys. If you are not using the WAN port on the Linksys for your SMC modem, then that would explain why you cannot get to the internet on wireless or wired computers.
Here's why you are getting the "low connectivity" message:
Computers don't understand why the Internet is connecting or not connecting...so the "low connectivity" message you keep receiving has nothing to do with your wireless signal strength. To a computer NIC, "low connectivity" means your network adapter could not find a DHCP server and receive a valid IP address. When this happens, your network adapter assigns an IP address to your computer in the following range...169.254.0.0, and will display the "low connectivity" message until it is able to receive a valid private IP address from the DHCP server. You can verify this by going to START | RUN and typing "cmd" (without the quotes), then hit ENTER. A black box will pop up....then type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and hit ENTER. This will show you your IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address, and you can verify that your IP address is in the 169.254.0.0 range. A valid private IP address is typically in the 192.168.0.0 range, but could also be in the 10.0.0.0 range, or the 172.16.31.0 range.
Also, make sure you have DHCP server enabled on the Linksys router for the LAN. This will ensure your "wired" and "wireless" computers receive a valid IP address.
The WAN port on your Linksys router should be configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP".
First thing i would try is power cycling your equipment. Unplug the router and the Modem-
Plug the modem in first and once all the lights come on- plug in your router- then restart your computer.
do check the signal strength of the wireless connection..you can improve signal by removing any big objects between the compu and the router/access point and/or re positioning the router.also intervening walls will affect signal..the fact that you are getting a linksys signal impilies that your home network signal is weak..hope it helps!
Try to remove the preferred networks on your Presario then try connecting again. If you have wireless security enabled on your router, you have to enter that. Make sure that the settings on your router is the same as your wireless adapter so that they can synchronize.
If you have difficulty with that, just ask me and I'll answer as soon as I can.
