Direct sound is actually referring to Direct X drivers. Do a search for Direct X drivers and download and install the correct ones for your sound card and operating system. Also, if you think your sound card drivers maybe part of the problem go to the Sound Card manufacturer website and download the drivers for your sound card and operating system.
install ur chipset drivers...there will be a setup file to install chipset driver, also install ur sound drivers.using the setup file of sound driver..and shut down and restart...
Now run setup for audio driver
while installation a windows will appear for driver search for new found hardware>>>>here click cancel and proceed futher...
after the installation complete , restart computer once you will hear the logging off sound..
After restart computer it will again search for driver for new found hardware....here again click cancel.....
If you are trying to re-install windows, you have to re-install the sound drivers also once the setup is complete. You cannot hear any sound untill you install proper sound drivers.
If you have the CD Driver of your laptop, try to install your Sound Driver. Just look for the Setup.exe or if it doesnt have a setup.exe and you want to install it manually, go to Control Panel and open Add Hardware, if your computer detected that the sound needs driver showing a critical icon(yellow triangle with exclamation point). Just browse the CD so that the computer will know where to find the sound driver. If you dont have a CD of your sound driver. Go the Gateway site. This is the support download site of Gateway : http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/ddaStep.asp?Tab=All ----Just complete steps 1-5 and you can download your sound driver.
