Laptop shuts down when moved around. I have a Toshiba A135-S4467 and yesterday when I went to pick it up and set it on my lap it shut down leaving the power button flashing orange. when I pressed the button it turns blue again and the computer goes to the password screen. Once I put my password in it goes back to the windows where I was before it shut down. It does this everytime I move it. This morning when I went to turn it on it did it again and I hadn't even touched it yet. I kept pressing the button and it just kept shutting off. I thought great...my laptop now went out for good. So I tried moving the power cord around until I finally got it to saty on..at least for now while I'm typing this. The only thing I have done to this laptop is upgrade the memory to 2 gig but that was a month ago. Any ideas?

My laptop is aprox 2-3 yrs old and has Vista Home on it, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. The battery level shows fully charged. In control panel it shows under Power Options Balanced. The computer came with 1024mb ram, I upgraded to 2 gigs because I download a lot of movies. I haven't tried running it on just battery power yet because I'm afraid it won't go back on again.

Ok, I unplugged the adapter and no problems with it shutting down. Could it be the adapter causing the problem?

  • katcook Apr 09, 2009

I'm thinking/hoping it may be the wiring in the Adapter itself since it has been yanked quite a few times. I keep my laptop on my coffee table and there have been times when myself or some one else had got their foot caught on the cord when getting up from the couch. I'm going to try taping the wire so it sits straight instead of bent and see if that helps. Hopefully that is all it is because I cannot afford to take this thing in. Thanks guys!

  • katcook Apr 09, 2009

I taped the wire up tight and plugged the adapter in and moved the computer around. No problems with it shutting down so far so I am going to assume it's the wiring in the adapter. Again, thanks for all of your help!

Since it happens when you are moving the computer on AC power, I would suspect the power connector on the laptop itself is the culprit. When you move the laptop, it jostles the connector a little bit and it loses it's electrical connection but it isn't loose enough to drop the manual switch that lets the laptop know that the AC adapter is actually plugged in.

If you know someone experienced with electronic equipment, it is not normally a major hassle to replace the connector on the motherboard, otherwise I would recommend taking it to a qualified service technician to get ir replaced.

Sounds like a Battery - AC Adapter problem. Do you have an Icon showing your battery level?

Do you have Windows XP? I'm guessing you do because of the memory upgrade.

If you have XP, go to Control Panel - Power Options and check you battery. Choose to show in task bar.

If you have a AC Adapter, the BIOS on your laptop will NOT charge the battery, but it will show that you are on AC (unless it's completely dead)

I'm guessing that if you only had 1g of memory, you have a pretty old laptop, and you probably should purchase a new AC Adapter, and a new Battery.

I meant to say "If you have a "BAD" AC Adapter, the BIOS on your laptop will NOT charge the battery, but it will show that you are on AC (unless it's completely dead)"

  • Anonymous Apr 09, 2009

Be careful! You really need a new AC Adapter. You taped it up, but I'll be very surprised if it will keep your battery charged. If it shorted out, even for just a second, your laptop won't recognize it any more...even if you fix it!

You'll think everything is fine because you can plug it in and run on AC...But it will no longer charge the battery! Your battery will die in time.

Maybe you got lucky and it's ok. Keep a close eye on it. And please...replace that old adapter, it's not worth the grief.

    Please rate if this helped...Thanks

Laptop Monitor Problem - I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. I had a system crash and I think I may have had a second problem with my monitor on my laptop showing, it went black and flickers on and off. ...

Possible disconnect of the wiring harness from the LCD to the motherboard? Might just need a new screen, but always check the simplest first. Flickering may imply faulty wiring or a lose connection in my opinion.

How to replace CD?DVD IN A135-S4467

It's very easy. First turn the laptop off with the DVD bay open. You will have to unscrew the memory ram cover, and pull it.
Afterwards you take a look at the screw that's on the left of the ram's compartiment. See this picture:
http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a135/take-apart-laptop/toshiba-satellite-A135-02.jpg
If you look close to the ram compartment you will see a screw on the left side. Unscrew it and that's it. You will only have to pull the dvd rom firmly outside the laptop-you can pull it from the bay, that why I've told you to let it open.

Toshiba Satellie A135-S4467 is not turning on

If they tested the PSU,power and found it to be working, and they
put your memory into another laptop and it worked

I would say it is your processor, most times people forget these cool from the bottom and they set them on places that they can't keep themselves cool and overheat.

If it was be, I would buy a used processor on ebay that was guaranteed to work, before buy a mobo,

Buy check the pice of both and see if its just better to buy new, with the advancement of processors, prices have dropped.

Shut down computer but some lights stay on

Your are not "shutting down" the laptop. It is going into "Stand-by" mode.

#1:
When you want to shut down,
select [Start]
then select "Shut down" and not "Stand-by"

The power button will also work.
#2:
When you want to shut down,
Press the power button and nothing else.
The laptop will log you OFF and "shut down"

I was shutting down my toshiba laptop, its now frozen.

If nothing else works remove the battery, leave it for 5 mins then replace it and it will start as normal. Yyou will get an error message usually saying it was not shut down correctly and it may do a system scan but unless there is a real problem with it that will restart it. Ive had to do that twice with mine in the last year.

I want to replace Hardisk Toshiba A135-S4467 to 320 Gb ?

Hello,
If your laptop hard drive is a 2.5" drive you should be able to upgrade it. There are some online retailers that you could purchase one from:

Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=&Configurator=&Subcategory=380&description=&Ntk=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=320gb

Toshiba satellie A135-S4467 screen went blank

Sounds like a bad motherboard if the system just failed and now you can get nothing to happen. One way to check this is to take a monitor from a desktop and plug it into your computer and power on your computer and see if anything happens if nothing happens then replace your motherboard

Toshibba laptop a135-s2276 ,my mother bords smd chip does not work so display of screen does not appear

The problem is well known witht this model Toshiba - the problem is the fan stops working and then hence shuts down to prevent overheating - it does not take long once the laptop is hot. Without replacing the fan just reboot the laptop until you hear the fan start again on reboot.
