When i connect it to my computer it says that it is there but when i put songs onto it they dont seem to be there when ive disconnected. It worked before but then my comp crashed :S
I have had my player since Xmas 2004 and it has been completely useless
since about Jan 2005 - I had exactly the same problem. I tried everything and Samsung were useless too
("turn it off and back on again"). None of the software patches etc on
their website worked, but I recently just found it in a box and thought
I'd give it another go....
So, what worked for me was to plug it in to my computer and although a
bunch of error message come up I can still see it in the 'my computer'
folder. Right-click the icon and click 'format'. Leave it as FAT32 and
all the other settings the same too, but click the 'quick format'
checkbox (or whatever it says in English - I'm running the Spanish
version of Windows). This will completely wipe the thing clean, so make sure you have a copy of any music files etc currently on there...
Then go to the Samsung website, then 'support'. Enter the player you have and it will take you to the downloads page. Click the 'Firmware tab' then download the file called "
YH-920GS
YH-920 System files (ver.1.0)" Once you have downloaded that just open the folder and copy and paste all the files onto the empty mp3 player via 'my computer'.

I bought the yh920 used and even though media player said the device was completely empty of music, the playlist on the mp3 player showed it was full of music. I have done the reformat on the player and reinstalled the firmware, although Samsung site said OS should be XP and I have Vista. Now the player says the firmware needs repaired and to connect to recovery utility. However, when I try to use recovery utility my computer says no device connected and try again. I have loaded my music on the player through media player, and I am able to play music stored on the players HDD through media player, however, the mp3 player is completely useless since it will always shut itself off as soon as I disconnect it from the USB.
