Our ASKO D1796 has a detergent compartment lid that is supposed to latch shut and then open during wash cycles. It is normally as simple as putting the detergent in and pushing down firmly on the lid. Now it won't stay shut no matter how hard we push down on the lid. There is a small mechanical arm at the lower side of the compartment that looks as though it is supposed to reset to grab and hood the lid. If I push the arm to reset manually there is an electrical pulsing as though I am pushing against a solenoid. Am I doing something wrong or do I need a new assembly? Thanks!
The whole dispenser will need to be replaced, they only come complete

Hi,
There
are three common problems that cause the Soap Dispenser or Cup not to
open. I have a tip that will explain these problems in
detail....

I have just started experiencing the same problem!! When the power is on, the lid will not shut. Likewise, when you turn the power off, shut the lid, turn the power back on the lid flies open again!! I have removed the front of the washer to inspect it and found the solenoid that opens the lid vibrates strongly when the power is on- almost like there is a relay on the control board switching it off and on really quickly. Thus when you try to close the lid, there is a strong vibration and noise coming from the washer not enabling the lid to close.
I'm not sure the problem is in the dispenser, as a solenoid from my knowledge will not open and close quickly. They normally either open when energised, or release when de-energised. To create the vibration and pulsing as quickly as it does would need to come from a relay or something I would assume (keep in mind I'm hardly the sharpest tool in the shed, and far under qualified to give advice). There aer 3 relays on the power board though, and one appears to have a blackened look on its clear outer shell. It also warms up consderably when you turn the power on for w ahile with the front cover off- though not half as hot as the poor dispenser solenoid!!
Please advise though, as like mentioned, I'm far under qualified to offer reliable advice.
