Hi there.
Hard drives don't come with operating systems on them, you have to reinstall the OS yourself either with your recovery CD or an install disk.
Post back if you need anymore advice.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

My Sony Vaio laptop has no operating system because my hard drive died. I have a brand new 160 GB SATA hard drive. Tried reinstallation of Operating System with Sony's recovery disks, did not work. Also...

new hard drive needs to be formatted before software can be installed on the hard drive. you need to use advanced setting on the software installation, and then format hard drive.

Hi, own a Sony Vaio VGN P530H with hardisk Toshiba MK6028GAL damaged. as forced to replace unit, wonder could install a higher capacity? Brand & model if available please!!! thanks to all of you!!!

The VAIO VGN-T350 is a notebook computer designed and distributed by Sony.
The hard drive on your Sony VAIO VGN-T350, which is the unit that stores data, consists of many clusters of data that can be rewritten with new data.
If you are looking for a memory capacity upgrade, or if your old hard drive is having errors, it's time for an upgrade.
Upgrading the hard drive on your Sony VAIO will require the use of a screwdriver and will take you about 30 minutes to complete.

Turn off your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and remove the power cord and any other peripheral components.
Turn over your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and locate the hard drive chamber on the bottom of your laptop. It will be clearly labeled.

Use the screwdriver to remove the screw holding the lid in place.
Gently lift the hard drive and its cage away from your laptop and disconnect the data cord.
Remove the four screws located at the corners, and then remove your old hard drive from its cage.
Place your new internal laptop hard drive into the cage and replace the screws.
Connect the data cord to your new hard drive and place your new hard drive into its chamber.
Close the lid and replace the screw to complete the operation.

This might not be your specific laptop it might give you an insight into the hard drive installation.

Ebay this hard drive should fit there are smaller capacity drives that will be compatible.

Hi, My screen is all black, with "operating system not found" message !

Make sure that your hard drive is the first boot in the bios. Try removing your hard drive and install it again. Then try to turn on your laptop.

Hi i have a sony vario model pcg - v505bp which when i swich on is saying operating system not found can you help me. thanks

The hard disk is not detected in your laptop have to remove the hard disk once, and fix it again at the bottom of your laptop you can see some openings closed with screws in anyone of that small rectangle shaped closings you can find the hard drive, it will be in steel color once if you move it to the opposite direction it disconnects after you fix it as it. The hard drive will have some loose contact if you re fix it once the drive will be detected, and turn on by fixing all as it is before. You will definitely get solved, Thank you don’t forget to vote.

I can't boot up the Vista install on a Sony Vaio VGN-NR160E

go to your BIOS Setup, see to it that there is a Hard Disk Boot Priority, maybe you didn't put it there.

No operating system found

This is caused by :-
1. Your hard disk has failed.
2. Your BIOS settings for the hard drive has been altered
3. Your hard drive has been wiped or someone or a virus program that has deleted critical files.

Go into your BIOS setup to check the hard disk settings, if possible see if it will auto detect the hard drive.

Also boot up with a DOS disk run FDISK to see if you can detect a hard disk, partitions etc.

If the hard disk appears OK you may be able to do a disk repair, most likely you would need to re-install the operating system and the laptop drivers for video, audio, LAN, modem etc.

Computer crashed

This is an operating system failure. You can try a system repair or reload with your recovery or operating system disc. Start with the repair, then the reload, if necessary. However, I've found that about 7 out of 10 times in a case like this, the hard drive has crashed and needs replaced. If you have any issues during or after the repiar/reload then it's the hard drive.
