Today while fishing the unit started to beep after 1 hr being on. When I looked at the screen it was blank and then it would show some lines then blank again. It is a navnet GD-1700c. I turned it off and the picture came back, but after a couple of minutes it did it again. I left it off for about an hour. Turned it on, saw the correct screen, then went off again. It would beep when the screen would go blank. It's about 3 months old. Thanks

Same thing happened to my older model. Going to research it today. Mine was on a hot day and Matt have over heated. After recharging the battery it no longer comes on at all. Let me know what you find out if anything
If those batteries are definitely good then the electronics of unit have gone haywire. Contact Olympus to see if there is some sort of hidden code to reset electronics to factory defaults.
The IBM beep code error 1 long 2 short beeps means there is a video card fault. Reseat your RAM because the video card uses some of the RAM. If it doesn't work then the video chip on the motherboard is faulty, the only way to fix is to replace the motherboard - this may not be a cost effective solution.
Connecting an external monitor to the laptop won't work because the video card also sends data to the video port.
Ok, with your current set up, what beeps are you getting? Also, while you have a blank desktop, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE and you'll have Task Manager come up, click File and then New Task and type in "explorer" without quotes and hit enter.
That should restore your desktop. Let me know how it goes.
had same problem. the cause was corrosion in the boat wiring. the power wire was corroded 95%thru. there was enough voltage to start the unit but when the sounder kicks in the voltage dropped below minimum and the unit shut off. took a LOOOONG time to find.
