Camera is 3 yrs old, working great till yesterday. When I open the LCD screen its black. If I open it part ways or flip it and close it, you can see the screen is fully funtional. Not sure what the problem is, all other camera functions are working. Need help to fix it myself or is it time for a professional to look at it? Thanks
My view finder goes black too. Ribbon cable connected to the view finder is cracked. This is a design flaw. They should have used a different type of material to create the connection from the view finder to the camera. You have to open the view finder every time to see what you are recording. I would like to find out the part number for this ribbon cable and where to order one. I really like the video this camera takes. My view finder goes black too. Nice! I paid much less than the repair cost 3 Years ago. I wish I could find the flex cable for <$20. I went to Panasonic site and clicking/searching found Service Center Locatior Link. http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Cameras-Camcorders/Camcorders/MiniDV-Camcorders/model.PV-GS19.S

Has anyone found this part yet? I can't seem to find anyone online that even sells replacement parts for these cameras. At the flat repair rate that Panasonic quotes on their website you may as well buy a new camcorder, which I'm sure is what they want you to do anyways.

I have the same problem...I saw on another site on a review of this product someone fixed this wire for $50. I am not going to drop full camera price to fix a wire. Does anyone know the part number or who can fix this problem for less than a fortune? I have the same problem...I saw on another site on a review of this product someone fixed this wire for $50. Re:
The flex wire of the lcd monitor is already cut ...go the service center for replacement of the flex wire...or to the other service center for fixing the flex wire...it is to difficult to fix the wire if you are not a technician cause that wire is like a strand of hair...

This sounds like a problem with the connector, or cable, rather than the LCD screen itself. If the screen is fine while pressing on it, it's probably Ok. My similar problem turned out to be the cable. ifixit.com has great troubleshooting and repair advice. (Your pressing finger getting tired yet?)
Either the LCD screen is cracked or defective in some other manner. It's possible the LCD works but just the backlight is out as well. Either way, the camera needs to be opened and the LCD checked out.
The Olympus "Tough" and "SW" cameras are FAR FROM being either "Tough" or "S"hock and "W"aterproof. I have seen dozens and dozens of them with cracked glass over the LCD and destroyed by water damage. Sounds like something got inside your camera or it was badly dropped.
Hope this helps.

I f these lines are slightly diagonal and they all showed up at the same time. you probaly have an open resistor in the ABL circuit. since your set is 13 yrs old, I would not put a penny into it.
You might take the front grill cover off and the panel behind it and find the little black box with 6 little controls 3 are for focus 3 are for screen turn the screen ones ever so slightly counter clock wise. the control in the middle is the green screen adjustment. If the green line goes away try the one labeled r for red and b for blue.
well u can turn it on by holding the vlume button for about 2 or 3 seconds. and u can also access the camera, media player and profile settings from the front by holding the camera button for about 2-3 secs.
