I have a Brother HL 4040CN laser printer. The toner cartridges are full. The colour does not print but the black parts do. The operating system is Windows XP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the operating program and updated firmware. I have turned the machine on and off and also the computer to reboot.

Description of Problem 100000013553
I just replaced the toner cartridge and the Toner LED is still on, or the status monitor continues to display the message "Toner Life End". What can I do?

The yield of the TN330 toner cartridge is approx. 1,500 pages.
The yield of the TN360 toner cartridge is approx. 2,600 pages.

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

1. Verify you installed a NEW, out of the box, genuine Brother toner cartridge (TN360/TN330).

If a toner cartridge from another machine was installed (even if there?s still toner left in the used cartridge) or a starter toner cartridge (included with the purchase of a machine) was installed, the Toner LED will stay on and the message "Toner Life End" would continue to appear on the display.

2. Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly by following the steps listed below:

a. Open the front cover by pulling the tabs on the left and right side of the printer towards you.

b. Lift the drum unit slightly and pull it out. Place the drum unit on a piece of disposable paper or cloth to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

c. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum by holding down the lock lever (blue tab) on the left side of the drum unit and lift the toner out. Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

d. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

e. Place the toner cartridge into the drum (be sure it clicks into place).

f. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from right to left several times. Return the blue tab to the home position before reinstalling the drum unit assembly.

g. Reseat the drum unit into the printer pressing it in securely.

h. Close the front cover making sure it latches on both sides.

If the Toner LED is still on or the status monitor continues to display the message "Toner Life End" the printer will need service.

The printer has a one year limited exchange warranty. If the printer is in warranty, call Brother Customer Service at 1-877-Brother (1-877-276-8437) for warranty options.

If the printer is out of warranty, contact a Brother Authorized Service Center for repair by clicking on the link below:

Is there a setting on the Brother HL-4040CN for black print only?

When you try printing any file or document, a printing properties option appears.
In this option, you have choice to print only with black colour.

Printed pages have streaks vertically along edge

Sounds like the end seals in the cartridge are bad. Remove the cartridge and see if there is toner built un inside printer. Also look at the drum on the cartridge to see if it has black lines that line up with the pirnt defect you are seeing. Try a new toner cartridge and run about 50 pages through.

The colours on our HL-4040CN have gone all strange - when we perform colour calibration the colours go either red or green. All toners are new and the drum has been replaced recently as well. We do a lot...

Hi

We need to isolated the problem on what cause ink cartridge not print in color. When even you installed new cartridges, It is necessary to run the print nozzle to clean the print head. Also, please try to clean the print head manually by removing all the ink cartridges and rub the print head into a white paper with alcohol until ink flows and then return it back and run the print nozzle for 2 times.

Then try to print again.

If it does not help you, please let me know to give you more help.

Can someone please help me i have just printed off 400 prints with my brother hl 4040CN laser printerits brand new and its now saying my cyan toner has ran out this is impossible i am right in the middle...

Your toner usage will depend upon how much of each color toner is used on each page. (To conserve colors when printing in Black and White only, specify monochrome in your printer setup) <div>I had similar problems when printing publicity flyers. The toner cartridges claim to be good for about 2000 prints each, but I was lucky to get 3 or 400 pages when printing blocks of color. The TN115 cartridges hold significantly more toner, and the cartridges that come with the printer are TINY.</div>

My brother hl 4040cn is printing fine, except there is a blank vertical line in the middle of the page. what is this?

Usually just toner dust on the laser lens, you remove the toner and drum and look on top inside for a window about 1/2 inch wide. You wipe that window with a dry cloth, and also check for paper scraps inside or on the drum assembly.

Model HL-4040CDN, told me to change magenta toner

HL-4040CN don't show or read new refilled magenta cartridge.

If you have removed and reinstalled the magenta cartridge several times, it is very likely the cartridge is defective out of the box. If you have another magenta cartridge, put that one in and see if the problem resolves. I'm betting it will. If that second cartridge does work, then return the defective cartridge to where you purchased it - they should replace it without a hassle.
