Glass cooktop scratched

This is an electric range with the glass cooktop.

Our tenant is a chef and likes to shake and move the pan on the cooking surface while cooking. It has caused what looks like white splotches and scratches on the surface. We have tried cleaning it with the recommended glasstop cleaner and a safety razor, but it did not get much better. Is it ruined or is there something else we can do?

The model is not as printed below-they didn't have mine listed. Mine is Model no. 790-9601

Unfortunately, these style cooktops are VERY fragile to scratching and cracking. The wrong kind of cookware can also mark them. Copper or aluminum pots and pans can discolor them. Do not use pyrex (glass) cookware on them either. Stainless is the best. NO CAST IRON either. Anyways, there's not much can be done without replacing the top itself.

How to remove scatches from a glass top range.

The reality is, scratches in glass are almost impossible to remove or polish out and trying to do so will probably damage the glass further. I use a flat paint scraper and dishwashing detergent to clean my glass top range which is scratch free. If you are making reference to everyday scratches that are left by pans and saucepans, then they are almost unavoidable and I guess considered normal by the manufactures and they say it has no bearing on the amount of heat delivered to a cooking pan.

Scratches ceramic stove top

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that you have scratches on the ceramic stove top of your Frigidaire rage, model# FEF366. Small scratches do not affect cooking and will become less visible with time. To prevent any further scratches, make sure you do not use any abrasive cleaners. These can scratch your stove top even more. Try not to use cookware with rough bottoms. These can mark or scratch the cooktop surface. Try not sliding any metal or glass across your cooktop. This includes sliding your pans as well. Coarse particles such as salt or sand between cooktop and utensils can cause scratches. Be sure your cooktop surface and bottoms of utensils are clean before usage. I hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

I have a Kitchenaid electric range Architect Series II. Seems every time I use the large burner on the right side there is some sort of residue left that is very hard to get off. I have already made a...

What are you using to clean the stove? Only cleaners made for ceran type tops should be used according to directions. Do not use enamel coated pans or glass pans on your cooktop. If you have a boil over, turn off the burner and change to a different burner immediately. Clean up the spill completely before cooking on that burner again. Use a flat edge razor to clean tough residue. Your cooktop will look new for years to come, even with heavy use.

As far as the scratch, don't use abrasive cleaners on the top and only use pots and pans with flat bottoms. If you do use cast iron pans, never scoot them around on the top.

I was cooking popcorn on my glass cooktop and the pan appears to have scratched to surface.

You may have melted the bottom of the pan you were using into the glass. Copper bottom and alum pans sholdnot be used at high temps on a glass top. (never use porclin or glass pots)High temps can etch(mark or discolor) the glass.

How to remove burnt grease, fix lightly scratched black stovetop?

Hi, I assume we are talking about a flat glass top. First the bad news. using any abrasives will permanently scratch the glass hence the dull spot. You can however make it look a little better. Grease spots and the like can be removed with a flat razor blade scraper which needs to be held flat to avoid the corners making scratches. Use any good glass/ceramic cooktop cleaner ( which is the ONLY cleaner you should ever use ) (available in your local grocery diy store and some hardware stores). The cleaner is a thick liquid, put about a dime size drop on each burner area and use a paper towel to buff out the finish like waxing a car. Once it looks clean flip your paper towel over and shine the top to like new. Good Luck!

White glass cooktop hard to clean

First thing I thought of was that your pots have oil or build-up of some kind on the bottom. Try cleaning them with a solvent of some kind. As an experiment, try using a pyrex pot to see if that makes a difference. As for cleaning the cook top, I use a vinegar and water solution with a soft cloth or very low abrasive scrubber as you can scratch the glass quite easily on some kinds.

My Magig Chef Glass Rangetop

This part can cost over $400. It is usually not worth fixing. NEVER operate the stove with a cracked top. This is tempered glass and it can just explode! It is also a dangerous electrical issue. Liquid can drip down through the crack and contact the live open element.
