We have a laserjet that has begun to start putting spaced out "smudges" on the left side of all print outs. While they are not extremely dark, they do not look professional and we need this fixed.
On a paper path test, the smudge appears a little before halfway down the page, right above that is one that is similar but indented and then about equal distance from the bottom is the same smudge and then again at the very bottom.
What do I need to test to figure this out? We are starting to get multiple complaints and have to find a fix.

Re: smudges down left side of paper
Maybe something attached (corrector fluid or adhesive)on drum (green cylinder - don't touch it!) or more probably the fixing film on the fusing unit is damaged (probably some paper clip left over input bin, or trying to remove a paper jam with some sharp-pointed thing)
If you have some other printer like this around, try with another print cartridge, if error persist , the fuser film is damaged...

If you are ask printer paper Quality then first you check it ink label and then you check paper quality because both are depend which types of quality you are used. If one in dull then printer quality also dull. I share a print quality related link please read and follow instruction.
Problem is either the cartridge or the fuser. Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1) Print something. When the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the top cover. Pull out the toner, look down at the paper. If it has the smudge replace the toner. If no smudge, replace the fuser.
Run a 1/2 test. Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1). print something. And watch the paper. As the paper gets about 1/2 way into the printer, open the top cover, remove the toner. Look down at the paper. If you don't see smudged text, the fuser is probably bad. If you see the smudging, replace the toner.
This problem is with the fuser. It needs to be replaced. They tend to burn out right in the center leaving a rolling smudge across the page as the unfused toner left on the roller gets printed on the next roll-over.
