I would assume that the battery is old. With time batteries looses a bit of charge, and their life get worse. You should just buy a new battery and the device will work longer for sure.
The battery should be charged overnight ie for approx. 10 hours. When the battery runs down then charge it up again until it is fully charged, you may need to do this several times until the battery reached it normal capacity.
just update the software and replace the battery(if its in warrranty period) from ne service centre..
charge the new battery 4 six hrs nd den 4 second time charging let it b empty...do the same for 2-3 charging period den d battery life will b enhanced
to have a proper full charge is 3 hours even tho the light might go off to indicate its filly charged. have you had it a while because according to nintendo the battery life drops by 25% after 500 charges and so on. you might be as well getting a new battery at around £3 on ebay
I'm not certain what your question is you made a statement more or less.
I do know that alot of cell phones will show that they are fully
charged after minutes of charging, but then very quickly go back down
to almost dead within an hour. This is because the phone is not
actually fully charged. Most batterys need at least an hour minimum to
be fully charged after its drained completely.

When batteries are only used seasonally, and they are stored, they can become damaged from weather or from storing them when they are not fully charged. In general, batteries used seasonally will have a shorter lifespan, so it sounds like you likely need a new battery. Check out http://www.batteryinternational.com/electric-lawn-maintenance-batteries.html for a replacement, and be sure to charge it fully before storing.
I dont know if this will help you, but it helped me. I had the same problem, with phone not holding charge and getting really hot both during and after complete charge. I needed my memorycard from my LG to my other phone, so I took it out, and off course the phone needed to be charged so I charged it, and... it did not get hot at all, and when it was finished, the charge lasted a day and a half!! Now the problem is I cant use the memorycard anymore in my Viewty :S Win/Loose situation i guess....
