Question about Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP 24" LCD Monitor
The problem is basically when I turn the monitor on, it powers up, the screen comes on perfectly (full resolution, brightness etc) for about 1-2 seconds and then the screen shuts off. It's just the screen itself that shuts off off, the row of LEDs stays on, so it's still drawing power. Any ideas/solutions would be really helpful. Thanks!
I found bluegreennash's suggestion when my LG L222WT screen kept blanking out. It took a few try's of shutting down the screen, changing the resolution while it did open for a few seconds then unplugging the monitor and shutting down the mac. I plugged in the monitor then rebooted and changed the resolution back from 640x480 and, touch simulated wood, it seems to be holding its own. It didn't work when I only rebooted, it seemed to need the monitor unplugged as well.

Your pc may be set to a resolution that is out of range for the monitor. Boot into "Safe mode" reset the Display settings to 640 x 480. reboot into normal mode then change the screen settings to your desired resolution.

possibly it's a backlight falure, this can be a real problem with LCD screens as they require a "backlight" to shine throught the display matrix, it is possible that teh system that energises these backlights has failed,
you can check this as if you look closely you will still be able to see changes in the screen when things are happening, it's just that there is no light to illuminate the picture

It's not anything like that, it's the monitor itself. Even when the monitor isn't hooked up to a PC (The monitors menu screens etc etc) at all, same thing as above applies.
This turned out to be a backlight inverter problem. I managed to buy a new one from a broken 2405 and with a bit of hacking, got it to fit in where the old one was. The monitor works perfectly now!
I am not sure if this site is still active, but I came here through a
google search. I have had a 2407WFP for a year (received it the
first week of 2007) and I get home from work yesterday and my monitor
goes dark. The power light is still on and I switched back and
forth between the VGA and DVI cables. If I turn off the monitor
and then turn it back on, I will see my desktop for a second or two and
then it goes off again. Because I received this monitor as a
gift, I do not have any purchase information so Dell lack of Customer
Service was no help at all. It's probably out of warranty anyway
(I doubt the company I received it from purchased an extended
warranty), which is fine. It's a damn shame Dell's Customer
Service sucks so hard.
