How to use 3g

First get the 3G access point settings from your service provider and manually enter under network option or ask for the auto config settings.
check 3G signal feasibility in your area.
put your cell in either auto (GSM/UMTS) mode for auto switch between 2G and 3G as per the availability or with UMTS/3G mode for always with 3G connection.

There is an arrow symbol in my phone and i cant hear my phone ringing if someone call me. it goes directly to my voicemail.

Hi
Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) was a wide-area mobile data service which used unused bandwidth normally used by AMPS mobile phones between 800 and 900 MHz to transfer data. Speeds up to 19.2 kbit/s were possible. The service was discontinued in conjunction with the retirement of the parent AMPS service; it has been functionally replaced by faster services such as 1*RTT, EV-DO, and UMTS/HSPA.

I ve a nokia 2730 classic model ...m using airtel service... when i set umts mode there is no network coverage

This probable if your Network does not have 3G/UMTS coverage in that specific area.

I would set your phone so that it will automatically select 2G or 3G network services (e.g. often referred to as Dual-mode) so that if 3G/UMTS is available and has the best coverage/signal, it will automatically be selected. Setting UMTS coverage only would be very restrictive in many area as the signal is usually weaker (especially in Buildings).

Hope it helps!

Sir i have n73 mobile, i get the signals on dual mode , and gsm but i can't get signal on umts mode please tell me what is the problem with my mobile

junnyy43,
If you can find your way on your phone on the phone network settings (GSM or 2G/3G) you maybe able to change the setting to UMTS.

Please take note, on some phones, UMTS, 3G, 3.5G, HSDPA may all be the same.
Most often you can only select 2G or 3G, 3G may actually mean UMTS/HSDPA/3G/3.5G.

Just curious, may I know the reason why you want UMTS? Perhapd I understand what you want to do, so I can give a better recommendation.

Sir, By mistake i applied 3G option in my nokia 5800 mobile, now i want to disconnect/close that option, can u guide me in this regards, that where i can find option to close 3G option in my...

Select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Network

Then select from the following:

"Network mode" - Allows you to select which network to use.
"Dual mode" means the device uses the GSM or 3G/UMTS network automatically

Your device will automatically switch between GSM and 3G/UMTS
networks.

My nokia e63 wont receive calls, what is wrong please?

Go to settings->phone->network and changed the network mode from "dual mode" to "gsm". the other option there is UMTS. and that did the trick. you can always change back to dual as i remember on one of my old Nokia the phone wasn't detecting network and i had to do the reverse (from GSM to UMTS) to get it all good.

some notes:

-Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is one of the third-generation (3G) mobile telecommunications technologies, which is also being developed into a 4G technology.

-Unlike EDGE (IMT Single-Carrier, based on GSM) and CDMA2000 (IMT Multi-Carrier), UMTS requires new base stations and new frequency allocations. However, it is closely related to GSM/EDGE as it borrows and builds upon concepts from GSM. Further, most UMTS handsets also support GSM, allowing seamless dual-mode operation

Hi,
The method you are talking about is present in MAIN MANU . PAL,NTSC etc are video singnals system and BG,DK,I etc are audio signals system and both are in manu of the set.

As far as concern you require the method of entring service mode. It is given below :

ENTERING SERVICE MODE:

In standby mode, press buttons on the remote commander sequentially in rapid succession as shown below:

DISPLAY---> CHANNEL 5----> VOL (-)--->POWER

Note that this differs from entering the service mode (volume [+]).

Thanks for using fixya.
