A good eye could help you to know if a solder join is defective, get ahead lookin for it first. But the technical answer to know if the power supply shuts off because an over current or over voltage protection, is always a way to walk thrue. what is sure, it is, if you continue hitting the tv maybe is going to be broken totally.

I have a Panasonic TV model CT-32G22U that will periodically shut off. Ten minutes later it will turn back on. I have checked to make sure the power cord is plugged in securely. Is it worth taking to a...

This is a common fault as the set on ageing deteriorates in the connections. There is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance.

The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on , If there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points.

Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up, if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault.

Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections. Sometimes large IC's- ones with more pins- tend to have drying in some pins and so cause faults related to the IC's protocol. Have a rough idea of looking into the areas to reduce the time of probing.

Hello, I have a LCD TV. MITSUBISHI Mod. #LT-40133, the left side of the tv. when the tv get hot (after 30 or 40 minutes) show vertical lines that cover almost all the left side. We replaced the Logic...

Hello
The fault can be detected from your problem post itself. When you hit at the back of your TV the fault disappeares, means there is some soldering loose or socket loose inside it. Normally, these faults will come appear after the set will got heated. The soldering points will get loose contacted, after some time, especially the solerings to the terminals of components, which will heat up durin working. This is normal fault to all kind of TVs. Your TV no also sufferes to this fault.
To determine which board and component is loosley contacted, just open your TV, and hit the top of components [verylightly with some non conductive material like plastic scale or so] , while the TV is working. Switch on your TV after opening its back cover, and wait for some time, say 20 minutes or so, and do this. From this you can determine the dry solered component. After detecting it, switch off the TV and take the board out, turn it upside down and resolder the suspected soldering points by applying a little more solder; without making any solder bridge in between adjecent soldering points.
This will surely resolve your TV's problem. If you want anymore assistance, please feel free to get me by Fixya.

I have a 36inch panasonic tv thats not a flatscreen its bulky. after a few mins of watching tv or playing games the screen gets black cept for this horizontal line with the picture in there i gave it a...

hit your TV lightly on left side or right side or on top & then observe ..........you will get normal picture or it comes & again it goes....if it is happening like that then following is the situation..........after 4 or 5 yrs in some TVs on main board ( also on CRT circuit board ) at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact picture becomes small in size or abnormal width, or rolls etc ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again picture appears normally for some time............so solution is .....TV main board & CRT circuit board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting TV lightly if there is no response then main board has to be checked completely........in your case iam sure it is loose connection problem.........joints should be re - soldered ...100% it works again ................this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other tools....................so contact good TV service engineer .............iam from bangalore - 09986222774 - [email protected] ( computers, laptop, printers, etc )..............

My LG TV is About 2.5 years old. The picture is still great, but it keeps going out. I have to hit it on the right upper area of the TV in order for the pic to come back in but it only stays @ 10 minutes...

seems the tv has a dry solder joint on one of the boards ie loose connection where the component solders in. The boards will need to be reflowed with solder and all cables checked and resat.

I have the same problem Panasonic Plasma TV wont come.

Alot of times capacitors on the power supply circuit board will go bad. They will bulge/dome or dry up which will cause this problem. Bad caps dont hold a charge, which is needed to maintain a voltage. The circuit board is two sided which makes replacing the caps difficult, and the board can be damaged and have to be replaced. Taking it to a repair shop may be cheeper and safer then doing it yourself. Having two-six caps replaced is a lot cheeper then a new board.

TV keeps shutting off and then on on its own

u have a bad solder inside your tv or most of the time called "cold solder". if u have soldering tools, inspect the board inside for possible cold solder and resolder it.

Vertical Deflection problem

i also suspect its just bad solder connections, the vert. o/p ic is maked ic451 look for all the ic's on heatsinks. it should have 10 to 15 pin all in a straight line & be attached to a small heatsink. if i remember right i think if you are looking at the tv from the back it is on the left side near the front (by the buttons/swtitches). resolder all the pins on the ic & resolder the parts just around the ic as they too also develop bad solder connections. just remember to check for shorted pins after soldering. good luck.
