Pentium 4 3.4 GHz S478 800 FSB cpu compatibility?

I have an eMachines desktop PC with a Trigem Imperial 1.10 motherboard with i845GL (Rev B1.)/Intel828801DB (ICH4.) chipset and Phoenix BIOS version 6.  I want to upgrade from a Celeron 2.3 GHz to a Pentium 4 3.4 GHz S478, 800 FSB cpu.  Would the motherboard handle the more powerful cpu even though the Celeron is really a cut down version of the Pentium 4 anyway?  Would the upgrade be ''plug and play'' or do I need to do anything else to get it running? Thank you for your attention.

Imperial gl ve 20020930 SPECS

TriGem (Company) Imperial GLVE (Model)

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=bph07813&lc=en#N779

Hmmm, I'm at a stalemate.

Looking at the specs for the motherboard chipset;
The Northbridge and Southbridge chip,

Intel 845GV

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_chipsets

Supports CPU's with a 400MegaHertz Front Side Bus, or a
533MHz FSB.

Naturally I can't get a clear picture of those jumpers, but they look to be 3-pin.

If we are to assume that the jumper pins set the CPU FSB support, from 400MHz to 533MHz, then the jumper cap is moved from either

Pins 1 and 2, to Pins 2 and 3; on J2 jumper;
Or Pins 2 and 3, to Pins 1 and 2.

I know !O_O!
Sort of a guessing game, as to where the jumper cap goes to what pins, for 400MHz FSB support, or 533MHz FSB support.

Do you have any idea of what the FSB is for the old CPU (Processor), that was in the motherboard? (Or is)

Let's say 400MHz.
You now know if the CPU you are wanting to use, needs 533MHz Front Side Bus support, you need to move the jumper cap to the opposite pins.

What happens if it's wrong? Nothing. processor just won't work.
Change the jumper cap back.

(NOT plugged into power when you do. Also FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions)

Yes. I'm 'out there on a limb'
I am assuming after looking at the TriGem support page, for the Imperial GLVE motherboard, that the J2 jumper is used to change the FSB support for the Processor.

It MAY be that J2 has Nothing to do with CPU Support.
It may be that there is no jumper for changing CPU FSB support.

(Cleared that right up, huh? Geez!)

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

[J1 = FDD. Floppy Disk Drive
J2 = CPU FSB jumper
J3 = CMOS Setup
J4 = CMOS,

Installing new cpu on a emachine

According to the specs I have Serena, the eMachines eTower 633i Desktop PC, uses a TriGem Cognac motherboard.

[TriGem is the manufacturer, Cognac is the model.
Note it is Not the TriGem Cognac+ ]

http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/motherboards_d/Trigem/Cognac/

Specifications. (You can click on the photo to enlarge)

PDF motherboard manual,

http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/TriGem/manuals/index.html

Click on - Cognac - in the left side of the list.

Going back to the Motherboards.org page;
(Nothing like upside down photo information, and the motherboard is turned 90 degrees to the Right, to how it actually sits in your computer case )

The processor socket is a Socket 370,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_370

Used for Intel Pentium III processors, and intel 'Celey' processors.

(Excuse me......Celeron.
An Intel Pentium III processor has TWICE the L2 cache, that a comparable Intel Celeron has.
The cache for a Processor is a small memory area for the Processor.

It is the First memory the Processor accesses.
The Ram Memory is second, and the Harddrive is third.
More cache for a Processor makes it more faster )

The motherboard chipset is an Intel 810.

The Northbridge chip of the motherboard chipset, is an Intel 82810.
The Southbridge chip is an Intel 82801AA, or an Intel 82801AB.
(Intel ICH, or Intel ICH0 )

Looking at the chart, and reading across, you can see what the Intel 810 motherboard chipset supports;

1) Processors: Intel Celeron, or Intel Pentium II, or Intel Pentium III.

2) Processor Front Side Bus: (FSB) 66MegaHertz, or 100MHz.

3) SDR Sdram ram memory at 100Megahertz.

[Single Data Rate Sdram is often just referred to as Sdram.

Erroneous.
Double Data Rate Sdram is also Sdram (DDR Sdram)
Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory
So is DDR2 Sdram, and DDR3 Sdram ]

Also referred to as PC100.

So when looking for a CPU you look for;

1) Fits in a Socket 370 processor socket.
Yep. The best is going to be an Intel Pentium III.

2) Has a FSB of 100MHz.

Hmmm,............

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_III_microprocessors#.22Coppermine.22_.28180_nm.29

Scroll down.

Pentium III 1100.

Maximum frequency rate ('Speed') is 1.1GHz (1100MHz)
Front Side Bus = 100MHz
Uses a Socket 370 processor socket.
Part Number = RB80526PY005256
sSpec Number = SL5QW

In the top header -
Specifications / Pictures (1) / CPU ID (1) / Comments (1),

You can click on the photo to enlarge.
256MegaByte of L2 cache. (256MB)

A comparable Celeron would have 128MB of L2 cache.

http://www.recycledgoods.com/products/Intel-SL5QW-PIII-Processor-1100-256-100-1.75V.html

http://www.impactcomputers.com/sl5qw.html

[ Don't forget to follow Anti-Static Precautions.
Clean the bottom of the Heatsink THOROUGHLY, and the top of the Processor if it needs it. (I always do anyway)

PROPERLY apply fresh, new Thermal Paste.

What type of dual core processor can I use for my dc7600?

The motherboard for the dc7600 has an Intel LGA775 processor socket. However, not all LGA775 processors are compatible with the motherboard. For the small form factor, the following CPUs are supported: Intel Celeron D Processors:
Intel Celeron D 331 Processor (2.66-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 336 Processor (2.80-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 346 Processor (3.06-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium 4 Processors with HT Technology:
Intel Pentium 4 521 Processor (2.8-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 524 Processor (3.06-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 541 Processor (3.2-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 620 Processor (2.8-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 630 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 631 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 641 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 650 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 651 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 661 Processor (3.6-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) or
Intel Pentium D Dual Core Processors:
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core Processor (2.66-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.2-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

I wish that I had better news for you.

I need to know which Pentium 4 cpu my mobo could take. It has a chipset: Intel 82845Gl Revision B1/ Intel 82801DB ICH4. Would it take an FSB 8oo MgHz and run it at full speeed or would it clock down to...

check your pin packging. if it is 478pin packaging then you can upgrade only to that.
but the current processors use lga775 packaging. check the processor pin packaging before upgrading.

UpGrade

you could only upgrade the processor and RAM in this condition i.e.

you can only change your an upgraded p-III processor like 1.0 GHz, 1.1 GHz or 1.3GHz and
upgrade the RAM by changing to 256 in each slot.

that is all what u can do with ur pc

looks like you limited to the p4 Prescott, this is a p4 list of the cpu support from asus. I also looked at their bios update page and found no bios improvement. if you can move to the 775 platform ,you can move from p4. otherwise, the p4's are still  good . I had the cpu that is the 2nd one down. 3.2ghz oc'd to 3.8ghz full time with a max of 4.0ghz on air[775 platform] quad-pumped gave me a 1001.3mhz FSB
