Recently after washing clothes dark spots are appearing. The spots match up with the holes from the drum. Before this we washed a bath mat that was starting to breakup before washing. During the washing the bath mat shreded. My wife was pulling pieces of the mat out of the washer.

Re:
There may be some pieces of mat stuck between the inner and outer drums. The quickest way to remove this is to remove the drain hose that leads from the drum to the pump and feel around the bottom of the outer drum and remove any foreign objects that may be stuck in there.

1) It could be that the washing machine drum has collected greasy residue from previous loads. Try cleaning the drum by running an empty cycle with a cupful of white vinegar.
2) Or could be the bearings. When bearings are on the way out they leave streaky dark marks on the clothes.
Normally a washer does not cause a staining problem, but If something inside the washer has rusted, it could. I would check your water tank. Drain water from the drain cock at the bottom of the tank, and see how dirty it is. If it is dirty, you need to drain the water until it is almost clear.
Yes, we had same thing with 20 yr old Maytag and the repair person said transmission. His advice, get a new machine. Transmissions are quite expensive and challenging to replace, approaching cost of a new machine to repair.
If you are getting round dark spots on your clothes after washing, the problem would be cause by a bearing seal leak. What happens is water leaks pass the seal into the bearings, and the grease leaks back into the wash water. To fix it would require the machine to be literally taken completely apart to get to the bearings. Very costly to repair. Sorry.
do you use a lot of fabric softner? If you do this might be your problem try to change soaps and stop useing fabric softner. try useing powder detergent and make sure that it is HE. let me know how it goes thanks
Hi
Its probably coming from the outer drum of your machine. That's what holds the water. Your inner drum, what you see, is full of holes and allows the water to pass through in the drum and wash the clothes. that outer drum gets crud in it which then passes through the holes onto your clothes. the easiest way to get rid of it is to get a product called "affresh" from W mart or the big Hardware chains and follow the directions. Good Luck
By spots I'm guessing that this is a permanent mark on the cloth. If that's the case, you are possibly putting concentrated liquid bleach into the machine...it is being added and causing the spots. Solution is to dilute the bleach or other concentrated cleaner. If you're adding it manually through a hopper...add it later in the cycle.
If the spots are black...you may have a bearing leak into the machine. Repair is a big job.
if you do cold to warm washs all the time you will get sludge between the drums, try several 95 degree washs with no cloths in it and see how you go .hope this helps.do you use fabric softner.
