When I turn the machine on,it makes a loud clicking noise and reads scanner error. Alarm button is flashing. Then it reads "Load paper, press OK" It alternates with the two messages. By the way, there is plenty of paper.

When copying the paper will not feed although the machine makes the right noises. An error message says that it is out of paper, to load some and press ok.I have run the print head alignment program and the 2 sheets of paper fed through ok. It still will not copy. Can you help?

I had this exact problem. This printer was given to me, so I didn't have the instructions. I'm pretty sure I damaged it when I tried to open it to change the ink. I didn't realize there was a lever. After I got it open, I had trouble closing it, but eventually I got it to sit down flat. It was after this that the scanning function ceased to work as described by others.

I searched online to find a solution, but was hesitant to buy a repair manual. I read about someone else who took the unit apart. His experience was really a help as he knew just what part to take off. You need to remove the gray panel on the right side of the unit (as you are facing the front). This is the side with the USB port.

There are only three screws to remove. I used a flat head screw driver to gently pry the pieces apart. There are two places it snaps together on the bottom of the unit. I was able to get it apart without damaging anything. Once it's open, you will be able to see there are a few ribbons that connect the top of the unit to the circuit board in the base. For me, two of these had come loose. I simply slid them back in the slots where they seemed to belong and put the thing back together.

It was easier than I imagined and it worked! Good luck.

I spent the better part of a full day trying to diagnose and repair the same condition with my trusted MP780. Finally I came across these repair steps and as the saying goes, "the rest is history". The only thing is I had to remove (2) screws to get the cover off; not (3). Many thanks.

This is what I found in a scanner-copier. The moving bar of the scanner has a flat tab that fits into a slot that has a very small light in it. That tells the bar to stop. When dust collects in the slot area, the light can't see the tab, and the bar bangs into the end, and the belt jumps and makes noise.. Blow out the dust.

miss ? why did our rate me as inappiorate ? the service manual is a detailed manual with troubleshooting and how to fiax anything that could go wrong with your printer. ehat happend to your printer if you read the service manual is that the carriage motor is stuck. you would have found this in the manual and the steps necessary in taking the maching apart to fix the problem.

If you wish to try something else first, the service manual would have suggested that you click START/PRINTER AND FAXES and double click on your printer, then cancel all pending jobs. restart your computer then your machine.

I seriously doubth that what i said was inappiorate. If you still think it is please let me know why so that i can try to do better next time. Thank you kindly .

Scanner mechanism stuck, making loud clicking sound

I've just got this problem after a powercut, whilst it was not being used but on. If you have only had it a few months send it in warranty.
Think I will have to take this apart and see if the scanner cable/ribbon/drive belt is caught on something or been stretched too much and can be replaced at all.
Its like at one end its caught and wont move the scanning head being stuck somehow, caught on something (doubtful tho').

Epson SX100 Scanner makes a loud clicking noise!

On the back of the Epson Perfection 1660 Photo there is a lever that shows a lock and a unlock by where you plug in the wire to the computer. It must be in the unlocked position otherwise it will make that loud clicking noise and not work. Hope this helps.

I have an HP LaserJet 3380 all in one. The carriage on the scanner does not return and when it gets to the end of its travel makes a loud clicking noise as if it was trying to return to its rest position....

This is a fairly common problem with this model.
HP does not supply individual component parts to repair this, and you will need to look at getting the whole Scanner assembly replaced.

Depending on what country you are in,
look for this part number...

Unless you forgot and tried to use it locked…then unlocked it after, it seems unlikely that changing the ink could directly affect anything related to the scanner. So especially if it still scans and now just makes more noise then before, we can reasonably say it isn’t a faulty locking mechanism and that the gears are probably not stripped, which would either stop it or not. So you’re looking at either something simple like the gear assembly being dry, shifted slightly, etc. or the safety by the lock that makes noise to tell you the device is locked is stuck somehow. The one can be tested by removing the little plastic safety that makes the noise when the scanner is turned on and locked; the other you might be able to test with some WD40 and see if it runs quieter.
