My Samsung PL170's screen does not light up when switched on. The lens opens but there is nothing but a black screen.

Lens jammed issue. little twist the lens in anti clock side and then try again in normal use.

You will have to change the CCD

Cheak the lens block its faulty

that is a problem for the tecs at samsung, you will need to send it in for repair.

Hi, this happened to my Samsung ST500, it took me months to find out what was wrong with it!, i found out the it gets stuck when the lens is different or has dirt in the lens.

• I Got Mine working by cleaning the lens but if that dosnt work try this, mine started working when i dropped my camera quite high onto the ground which can make your lens pop back in if this dosnt work, try your warranty!:)

Sorry, it doesn't sound like a quick fix is going to work here. The lens sounds like it took a pretty good hit and may be misaligned now, which is keeping it from fully retracting. Your best bet is a service center at this point.

The lens is stuck. Switch on and tap the edge of the camera against your hand quite sharply. The lens should eventually pop out and screen operate as normal. Make sure lens casing is totally clean before switching off.

The issue is likely a bad lens assembly. Consumers wishing to repair this can check ebay for a replacement lens assembly, motor and sensor are usually included.

This happened to my Samsung s700 while I was mucking with it recently. It can happen when the lens meets severe resistance while trying to open, thus damaging the lens. The camera turns on and cannot tell precisely where the lens is, and subsequently the camera leaves the CCD imaging sensor turned off.

Replacement is easier than repair as lots of intricate parts are involved. However, the centermost ring will pop off with a little force, revealing four screws. The screws on the back side of the lens assembly are pretty obvious. Best of luck to anyone trying to fix this rather than replace it...

guessing it was dropped, have a side look at the lens, its probably not straight. pull it straight gently and try again
