I have tried to send faxes for the last three days. The fax machine on receiving end is on (I have called them) you can hear fax ringing but message comes back as no answer. This is happening with five different fax numbers today. Help ASAP, I have to get this fax sent to doctor today.
I have always had my HP 4315 and DSL on the same line but were using different jacks and had no problem sending or receiving faxes. I switched the fax machine to the same jack as the DSL because I needed the other jack for vonage. Now I cannot send faxes, I can receive but cannot send. I am using an in-line DSL splitter filter for the DSL and the HP fax machine. Does any one know how to fix this.I have always had my HP 4315 and DSL on the same line but were using different jacks and had no problem sending or receiving faxes. Step by step information at the link below. Brother Fax T96 The F/T
Mode is used to allow the fax machine and the telephones to share the
same telephone line. When a call comes in, the fax machine and all
extension telephones on that line will ring according to the number of
rings you have set for the Ring Delay.
When the Ring Delay is completed, the fax machine will answer the call
and determine if it is a fax call or a telephone (voice) call.
The fax machine can determine this by the signal it is receiving on the
telephone line. If someone is sending a fax automatically , the sending
fax machine will transmit a fax tone (a series of beeps every 3
seconds).
If your fax machine hears these tones, it will receive the fax.
If the fax machine does not hear any fax tones, it assumes it is a
telephone (voice) call and will begin ringing the F/T ring tones (double
ring) for the length of time you selected for the F/T Ring Time. These
tones will only ring on the fax machine's handset (extension or external
phones will not ring). At the end of the F/T ring time the fax machine
will go into the receive mode in order to receive a manual fax.
(If the call was a voice call and was not answered, the caller will hear the fax receive tones also).
If you answer the call before the fax machine(during the ring delay
period) and determine it is a fax, you can transfer the fax to the fax
machine for receiving.
If you answer the call on an "extension" phone and hear a beep every 3 seconds (automatic fax) or silence (manual fax), press *51 or *91
for New Zealand (remote activation code) on the telephone keypad, wait
to hear the fax machine turn on (chirping sounds) and then hang up.
If you answer on the handset of the fax machine and hear a beep every 3 seconds or silence, press the FaxStart or Start/Copy key on the control panel of the fax machine and then hang up the handset.
If you answer a call on an "extension" phone during the F/T Ring Time, you will hear the F/T ring tones.
To release the call from the fax machine, press #51 or #91 for New Zealand (remote deactivation code) on the telephone keypad and you can speak to the calling party.
If you pick up the handset of the fax machine during the F/T ring time, you may talk to the calling party immediately.
In order to send, the recieving machine and the sending machine need to handshake (agree on setting, etc.)
If, as your description says the phone is ringing, I presume your are the sender.....what you need to hear is the other machine pick up, and then fax screech noises..... Test by calling the receiving fax by regular phone, and you should hear a pickup and fax noises....if not, your machine would never send.
Dial the fax number in Japan with a regular phone. You hear how responsible you a fax from the other side? If you answer a fax can be heard, the more likely the issue is still in the phone company that gives you the link.
Are you sure the line is good? You can try a plugging a telephone into the line to check it. If you press the "hook button" (or whatever it is called on that machine) do you hear a dial tone? is the phone cord plugged in snugly and in the proper jack on the machine? Is the cord good? These are a few things to try. If all of that checks out, then the phone board on the machine is shot.
Try calling your fax machine with a cell phone to see if the fax answers. If not, check that the phone wire to the fax is plugged into the LINE socket, NOT THE PHONE SOCKET on the fax machine. Next, go to the MENU on the fax.You may have to check or change one or more of the following settings by trial-and error to fix the problem. BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANY SETTING, WRITE DOWN OR PRINT OUT THE ORIGINAL SETTINGS. In the MENU, find FAX SETTINGS, FAX SET-UP, or INITIAL SETUP settings. Try changing one or more of the following: PULSE/TONE, RECEIVE MODE, SEND MODE, RING DELAY, RING TIME, OVERSEAS MODE, etc.
Remote fax error means there is something wrong on the receiving end, not with your fax.
It could be that it can't negotiate the handshake with your machine (that static noise it makes when it first connects).
Or it's not set to a receive mode.
Have you tried just calling the remote fax with your phone to see if you can hear that it is in a recieve mode (you'll get the static) or that it's not going to an answering machine by mistake (a common problem)
Call your cell phone from the fax machine and check the caller ID to make sure that it is the correct number for your fax machine. Next, call the fax machine from you cell phone, and make sure the fax machine rings. Problems like these are almost always a phone line issue, not the machine.
I would suggest there is nothing actually wrong with your machine, as you can indeed receive faxes from other parties. The problem mostly likely lies with the equipment and/or lines of the sending party. One thing you might suggest to them is to turn off ECM (Error Correction Mode) and/or lowering the sending/receiving speed of the machine - preferably the sending speed of the sending party.
